USA Today 25 poll

Crazy to think about LSU.

Had bama missed that field goal at the end of regulation they are probably sitting at 8, instead they are at 20.

I guess you could say that about every team that lost

Except Iowa :D

Surprised to see OSU jump ASU.

Or if their idiot player who committed a personal foul on the goal line had any semblance of a brain, they'd be at 8 too.

I hate Alabama, but after that penalty I was cheering for Alabama the whole way. I love storybook choke jobs. Those last 75 seconds of regulation were just gold.

How does Auburn only drop 6 spots after losing to an AWFUL A&M team?

Still surprised with the Coach Poll's love for Nebraska, they did not play yet move up three spots to #11 (I know it's more that others are falling that the Cornhuskers are rising up). But they have only beaten one Power 5 team with a winning conference record (beat Miami, who is 3-2 in ACC, at home)

Only Duke is rated worse for a one-loss power five team. I think they are about where they should be.

There is a real good chance the SEC gets only one team in. Florida St. should go undefeated. There is a good shot Arizona St. and Oregon both win out before they meet in the conference championship. You'd think the winner would be a shoe in. Then I think both TCU and Baylor will win out as well. It will be interesting how they would pick between TCU and Baylor. Baylor beat TCU but Baylor has the worse loss.

Wow. Voters just HATE us.
They hate Wisconsin too.

Because A&M is a 7-3 team, not a 3-7 team. Our losses come from #1, #3, and #10, albeit with an extremely embarrassing failure in Tuscaloosa and moderately poor performances against the Mississippi teams. However, it's starting to become clear that the issues with the team may have stemmed from a QB who is currently suspended and some upperclassmen who are riding the bench. If anything, they should have dropped more due to losing to a team with an untold number of freshmen starting and contributing.

I think you're seeing support because you play in the best division in football and you've been a good team the last few years. It's hard to see any team in any other league staying ranked after a game like that Alabama game.

7-3 with wins previously over S Carolina (who was by far the most overhyped team this year), Arkansas (still with no SEC wins in how long), and the world beaters Lamar, Rice, SMU, and UL Monroe. They might finish well this year and I think switching QBs was a decision that should've been made awhile ago (let the kid take his lumps as it'll make you better next year) but the team is not a top 25 team. By comparison Utah dropped 8 spots losing to Oregon and Notre Dame dropped 5 by losing to ASU. It just doesn't add up in my opinion and the fact that they only lost by 3 does not make it better

It's all about pre season rankings, and the SEC gets the benefit of the doubt.

They were ranked like top 10 because they beat South Carolina right away, who was horribly overrated. So now that they've lost to 3 top 10 teams and beaten nobody, the voters still give them votes because they were considered "super good" based on absolutely nothing legitimate in week 1 and don't have any bad losses.

We need to ditch rankings entirely until week 8, but that will never happen cuz it would hurt tv ratings. Let the computers like Sagarin rate teams since they're just for fun anyways, but withhold the AP, Coaches, and selection committee polls until week 8. Better yet, just get rid of the AP and coaches entirely.

Never argued that we were. Just saying losing to us by three shouldn't make Auburn drop 10+ spots on the polls.

Wasn't trying to insinuate that you were. Just saying that 2 teams that lost to actual top 25 teams dropped by more than Auburn losing to a non-top 25 team which I find odd to say the least.

This is probably as significant: Auburn's high ranking was based largely on their narrow win vs. K-State (believed by the media to be a Top10 team, and specifically referenced by the Playoff selection committee). TCU ended any conversation of K-State being among the best teams in the country. Suddenly Auburn really looks like they could be beat by mediocre opponents as well as the elite.

Scary to think that TCU is one implosion away (vs Baylor) from being a virtual lock for the playoff right now. Instead they're going to have to hope that Miss St wins so that Bama drops farther (think if Bama wins, Miss St won't drop lower than them honestly) or that Oregon drops one they shouldn't

They say head-to-head is important with the committee. I just can't get behind Baylor. WVU beat them worse than Maryland. I think we saw what would happen to Baylor in the first half of that TCU game if they were in the playoff. But I also think Baylor stumbles in one of their next three and TCU gets in.

We saw exactly what happens to Baylor when they play any real competition from another major conference last year in the Fiesta Bowl. Anyone can run up the score on the likes of Iowa State, Buffalo, and Kansas. Just because two of the three happen to be in a major conference is meaningless.

This doesn't help TCU's case.

This is the way it should be IMO. No need to overanalyze and discuss who has the worse loss. There is no better tie breaker than head to head. Baylor beat TCU. Let's leave it at that.

Keep in mind this tweet doesn't mean the selection committee will pick Baylor over TCU, but it is a pretty huge boost for Baylor's case if both teams finish with 1 loss.

Big 12 champ will be moot. The fourth spot in the playoff will go to the 4th place SEC team.

Bama needs to destroy everyone because right now Vegas and most think they are the #1 team in the country. Would you pick against them on a neutral site against any team?

They win out and they would jump FSU and be #1.
FSU wins out and is #2.

I don't think Mississippi State would garner enough support to make the top four at 1 loss and not winning division. Their non-conference was also garbage.
Now we're onto:

1 loss PAC 12 team. Oregon or ASU
Baylor at 1 loss because TCU can't jump them based on criteria of Head-to-head.
tOSU at 1 loss or maybe Nebraska at 1 loss.

Oregon, ASU, Baylor, TCU, OSU, and NEB are 6 teams left for two spots.

...and this will all be moot with another weekend of upsets looming.

Interesting predictions and I think I agree with them as it stands right now other than that Bama isn't regarded as the #1 team. That's still Dak Prescott and Miss St. We'll find out definitively this weekend too but I think Bama hurt themselves with the W over LSU as it took a miracle and some idiotic implosion by LSU to get them the win.

As far as upsets this weekend, really not a ton that can change. Unless there's some really dramatic upsets (Miami over FSU or us over OSU), I don't really see anyone who is at risk via a matchup problem.

This weekend's big games (including those realistically in the hunt) are:

Miss St @ Bama
OSU @ Minn
Auburn @ Georgia
Nebraska @ Wisconsin
FSU @ Miami
TCU @ Kansas
ASU @ Oregon St

There's really not much there as far as games you think could go down as upsets. Teams on alert I'd say would be Nebraska and OSU as I can't see any of the other teams dropping a game this weekend, but you never know

Vegas disagrees. Florida State is only a 2.5 point favorite at Miami.

True. Didn't look at the point spreads. Depends on which Miami shows up, could be close of FSU could win by 30. Wonder if that spread is a product of FSU looking really bad in winning tight games the last few weeks or that they are higher on Miami than many others? Interesting
