Updates to the roster

I am wondering if any of the o-linemen end up moving to DT. Maybe one of the McAvoy's, wasnt one of them a really good wrestler? Even Christensen if he if behind Hayes and Bobek. I would guess they are going to bring in at least 2 OL this year (Already have one verbal and they are after his little bro, too) so they will have a lot of big boys in the pipeline where DT could use another big athletic body or two IMO especially against power running teams.

Anyanwu has been listed on the official roster as an ATH and at 230 lbs. Kill called him a TE today and said that he's up to 255 lbs (with Williams up to 250). With Goodger, Plsek, Williams, and Anyanwu, our TE corps is going to be deep, talented, and athletic for the next several years. I thought we were going to be in trouble there after Rabe graduated, but these guys have been so good that they've practically relegated Rabe to the bench.

This is interesting on Anyanwu. He is also young for his class, like Plsek, if I remember correctly. I thought they might make him a DE or OLB, but he is probably just a hair too tall to play OLB. (Insert Fargo Flash joke here...)

He's been playing quite a bit. I would say that he's been ok. All of our LBers have struggled some

Bob- I would not say "quite a bit" because he missed some games with injury. He did play quite a bit with the second LB rotation on Saturday.

Yea...my bad. I did not read the entire thread before replying.

I would not be surprised to see Plsek moved to DE (or more likely DT) before next season. He is already very large for a freshman, and is young for his grade (theoretically meaning lots of room left to grow), and has a defensive player's mentality. I don't see any of these guys moving to LB. They are all too big, and too tall in particular. I could see them fortifying the LB corps by growing out some more safeties over the summer.

Do you think there could be a trickle down, where Plsek or whomever moves to DE/DT and one of our linemen moves to LB? Are any of them built more like a LB?

You don't very often see DE move to LB (Lee Campbell being a notable exception), especially not for Kill because he values speed as the one trait above all others. Garin is a guy whose measurables scream LB, but he apparently can't play there and is probably not going to start now, given that he will be a Sr. next year. Something else Kill recruits for is height (noticeable particularly at DE, CB, and TE), and I think all of our DEs are too tall to play LB, aside from likely lacking the proper flexibility, speed, and read/recognition skills.

Also, Steve Davis moved from DE to LB.

SD really did not fit either in that system, he probably would have fit Kill's system at DE bettter.
Despite the earlier comment that they would not have played Plsek if they were willing to move him, they will move anyone who outgrows a position, and he might get huge. He is barely 18 and if I remember correclty, 250 lbs, that is a big guy who is not done growing.
Good mobile DTs are harder to get than blocking TEs.

Let the kid walk on and have a shot in Spring camp to be our kicker....in fact let any high schooler walk on if he\she can kick - we have obviously had bad luck with kickers recently. Next........

No sheeot. I would let Stevie Wonder kick if I felt he would make the kicks.

I always chuckle at our short memory with kickers.

The long time Holy Grail
Chip Lohmiller 46-57 FG 81%

The Second Coming
Dan Nystrom 68-91 FG 75%

Very Popular, but Pedestrian Stats
Rhys Lloyd 26-36 FG 72%

Our Last Regular Kickers
Joel Monroe 22-29 FG 76%
Eric Ellestad 24-34 FG 71%
Jacob Wettstein 15-22 68%

NCAA Average is 72.7% 63 of 101 statistical FG leaders are at or under 75%. Ellestad and Wettstein make 1 more FG each and they are at 74%.

Don't talk about range, Lloyd made his longest kicks in his first game, and only made one over 40 his Senior year (he was 12 of 18 on FG that year). Wettstein and Ellestad combined have three GW kicks. Lohmiller, Nystrom, and Lloyd combined had four.

I don't have the numbers on makes and misses and from what distance but Reese Lloyd had plenty of range. He could hit from 57 plus and did in practice on a regular basis. Don't know if it was a lack of accuracy or opportunities but he had the range.

Also you left Adam Bailey off that list. I don't know what his numbers looked like but I remember him being pretty solid for us during his time at the U. But maybe he didn't do as well statistically as I remember him doing.

I meant on "made field goals". Range is not relevant if you aren't accurate. Unfortunately, that's why Rhys never made it as an NFL field goal kicker...

Great guy, though.

Very interesting, thanks! It would be interesting to weigh those numbers with length of kicks. Might not make a difference though. I think missed PATs and chip shots is what is maddening.
