HBM seemed to be one of those marginal MN recruits that was on the fence of receiving an offer. He was rated a ** by Scout and no ranking by Rivals.

I remember some people talking about how we should take a local kid like McFarlane. He ended up at NDSU and then quit days before the season started. He transferred to Winona State and caught a TD in his first game there. Then, apparently he was charged with felony assault. Sad story. Thought it might be of interest to some on here.

Sadly, this doesn't surprise me. HBM had a major ego issue in high school. In basketball, he was kicked off his Kennedy team during mid season. Too bad, as he could have played a big role in helping the Eagles to an unexpected Lake Conference title. Instead, the team went on to a so-so season.
He's had many chances. If he gets another one, hopefully he'll use it as surely it could be his last.

WAY OFF!!!!!!

Couldnt be further from the truth.

Actually the team rallied late in the season without Hakeem. The Eagles were led by the three other senior starters other than Hakeem - all of which were four year varsity players. Kennnedy beat Alipate & Jefferson in the section 1/4, then upset Eden Prairie in the semis. That win was stunning because Kennedy had lost by 35 and 40 points in the regular season matchups to EP. Then the Eagles capped their remarkable run by upsetting Shakopee in the section championship to gain their first state tournament berth since 1984. They also gave Minnetonka all they could handle in the state quarters - cutting a 20 point 2nd half defecit to three with under 2 min to play before losing by 7.

Two of the Eagles both went to St. Olaf this fall - and Bobby Fong leads the Ole's in points, minutes, and 3 pointers as a freshman.

Yeah, second place in the Lake Conference and a state tournament berth was really disappointing for the Eagles, who had finished 11-15 the year before, and hadn't had a winning season in many years.

Agreed with Josh087. I also was there. Kennedy made a great run in basketball without HBM - seems like the team chemistry improved without him. And they lost in the state quarters to the eventual state champion...and gave them by far the toughest game they had in the state tournament. I've seen few teams come together and overcome adversity like that one did...it was a true pleasure to watch.

HBM, at his best, was one of the best athletes I've ever seen at the high school level. Fast, strong, able to jump, great hands, etc...he could make the spectacular play, and we saw it many times. I've seen lesser athletes with tamer highlight reels sign and succeed with Big Ten schools. But he's been unable to reach his full potential, and now is in trouble with the law. Who knows if he'll ever play football again. I'm not defending him or his actions...but the whole situation is a sad one.
