University of Iowa puts "The Hawkeye Way" billboard up in DT Mpls

Why do you think they do it? Serious question, I can do without the juvenile harebrained comments....Im truely asking why they would spend money on a athletic message board. It seems geared towards students, not a thletes.

The Iowa ad is probably in a package of college ads that appear on all college bulletin boards. Remember, we have the "I am UNI" ads also.

It is like seeing Democratic ads on Redstate, and GOP ads on Daily Kos. They both happen.

The software just sees "they mentioned X, so we'll put up ads for X". It's not smart enough to figure out that X wasn't mentioned positively.

It helps to remember that computers are high speed idiots.

I saw the one on 35W North the other day and I'm curious as to why they would buy billboards in Minnesota. It's no different, I suppose, than the billboards we see from MnSCU or other post-secondary schools. Just thought it odd that they'd spend the money. I don't think it's about recruiting athletes. More about getting Minnesota kids to consider the University of Iowa. I know Iowa State does well in recruiting Minnesota kids in some academic areas. Maybe Iowa is looking at that in making this marketing decision.

I think it is more about the inroads that ISU has made in the metro area, and the "big brother" wants a piece of the action.

yep, its cuz its where the money is. FB program ever gets off the mat they'll discover how much cash some are willing to throw at that bandwagon....

Huh, I'm surprised by this. I wonder how many Minnesotans would attend Iowa since there is no reciprocity agreement in place between the two states (and because it's a stinky hole)?

I have been told that Iowa's out-of-state tuition is the lowest in the Big Ten. It would still be higher than reciprocity would be, but it isn't like it's Michigan or even Illinois.

I was on YouTube last night watching a Gopher Sports video, and the "ad" that ran before it was a video ad of "The Hawkeye Way". I almost threw up on myself.

If you back up and look from a distance youll notice your goalposts from the dome have been reused to support the billboard. Stay classy gopher fans.

Sweet burn on the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, who actually owned the goalposts.

Yes, hogeye fans should be the ones giving us lessons on "staying classy". Get real.

So it only took over 10 years to figure out how to get them out of the dome through the revolving doors? The Hawkeye Way indeed.

Speaking of the dome, I think he might be referring to having sex in a public restroom as being part of the "Hawkeye Way."

Yes indeed, class acts they're down to the south of us.

There is a reason that Minnesota doesn't have Gopher billboards in Iowa. We don't need to reach out to Iowa to get quality students. They have to go looking for whatever they can.

It gets back to this: Whenever a Minnesota kid goes to Iowa, it raises the average IQ of both states.

I was in Chicago this weekend (this hangover is incredible) I noticed 2 of the exact same billboards there.

I just don't know. I thought Minnesota had laws making littering illegal.

Boom.

How's your record in "Kinnick North"?

First of all it's not "MY" record. Id respond like this....same as Jerry Kills record at Kinnick. One or two trips.....works both ways. Thats why I said to give it time. Willing to put your money where your mouth is? How many games MN wins in Kinnick vs how many Iowa wins in TCF.....lets say over the next ten years?
