UNH Scouting Report

Thanks for all the commentary UNHFan1! I certainly enjoy reading it. I am just hoping we don't overlook your squad. Too often in the past, we are always looking past these FCS teams. In all reality, we haven't handled an opponent that is SUPPOSED to be inferior in a LONG time. Not saying that UNH is incredibly inferior, we should just have a higher talent level (I hope). So, I am looking forward for us to come out focused and not be lethargic against a team that we should be 100% focused on.

Ultimately this game will be won or lossed in the trenches, as it usually is when it comes to FBS vs. FCS. Minnesota will have a big advantage there. UNH is fast, but I just have a feeling the Gophers will be able to overpower UNH, logic just says BigTen>FCS even if its a poor one vs a good one. And usually I would take the surprise factor here, but considering Minnesota has experience playing good FCS teams, and losing some of those games, I just dont see them doing it again. When we beat Northwestern, Army, and Ball State, they had no idea what they were up against and usually were overlooking UNH because they had a "tougher test" the week after. I just cant imagine thats the case here.

No line Vegas for this game since it's AA vs. A but the Sagarin Rankings are a pretty good indicator of the betting lines. They show Gophers as a 5 point favorite. If the game were in NH the Gophs would be a 1 point dog.....

Honestly, I think this game is about MarQueis Gray. I feel like we'll be the physically better squad in the trenches, I don't think we'll have as many issues there as we have in the past I hope. We can't see as many missed TD opportunities as we did last week, that's just gonna keep UNH in the game, which we saw what happens when we do that. At least this year I feel like we shouldn't get shredded on defense, I think we're seeing growth there, even going back to last year late in the year. Offensively, they just gotta punch in their drives. Gray's gotta be on it this week.

I love how you put a question mark on this sentence. It's funny because I often question whether you think at all before you post.

No, it won't. As much as it pains me to say, last year's NDSU squad was one of the best teams in I-AA history. UNH is good, but nowhere near NDSU caliber. Not even in the ballpark.

I'm saying it will be on everyone's mind this weekend because the last time Minnesota played a I-AA team at home it was against the Bison -- and they lost. Also, based on the latest polls, it appears as though UNH is at least near the caliber of NDSU. The Bison are ranked No. 1 and UNH is in the top 15. Sure, NDSU is better, hands down. But I wouldn't say they are in completely different ballparks. That's like saying Alabama is in a completely different ballpark than Clemson because the Tide are the defending champs and ranked No. 1 and the Tigers are top 15.

I will say that Alabama is in a completely different ballpark than Clemson.

Then I'll say it. Alabama and Clemson are in completely different ballparks.

Ha. The previous two posters beat me to it. Using Sagarin ratings, Alabama would be favored by 22 if they hosted Clemson this weekend.

I think Gray is going to play with a Chip on his shoulder this week. He knows he has to play better, he never put his head down when he was moved to wr, he never put his head down when Shortell got some run. I think he's going to bounce back nicely this game. His size and speed should be a bigger advantage this week.

Well it won't be Chip Armelin, he's left the U. Maybe Chip Lohmiller?
