I know most of you were watching the game last night so you probably didn't watch it, but if you get a chance make sure to watch "Unguarded" about Chris Herren. It's an ESPN documentary about his drug addictions. If you don't remember, he played for Fresno St. and then briefly in the NBA. Very powerful documentary. Don't know if ESPN will replay it or not.

I watched it; fantastic stuff. Highly recommend others watch when possible.

Excellent. Had me choked up at the end.

His wife qualifies for Sainthood. Was she aware she was married to an addict the whole time?

I remember when he played at Williams Arena against the Gophers. They handed out little towels at the game, so you could suck on them like Jerry Tarkanian. :)

I might be wrong, but the implication was that she knew the whole time, and that she treated it like someone who had a condition that could be treated.

Here is the box score for that game. **well maybe it wasn't the game you were speaking of as it says here it was at MSG...but it was a game in which Herren played the Gophs...and we contained him and won!** **OK edit #2...Here is the game you were speaking of..Herren struggled.**
That was a very powerful documentary. It really showed how a few bad decisions with drugs and alcohol with someone that is suseptible to addiction can change someone's life from the top of the world to the bottom. It also showed that it doesn't matter your situation, you can be making millions and still screw your life up with drugs, it isn't just poor people that are forced into this life.

His brother I think was an issue, more so than he said in that documentary as the bro was a part of it.

Agree also that 99 out of 100 wifes would, understandably and probably rightfully, have left him. She had amazing patience.

I've set the DVR. Next playing is 6am Saturday.

It was actually on tonight again at 7. It wasn't on the schedule but it was on.

Amazing story. Powerful. Too bad he wasted his talent, but hopefully he can stay clean.

I remember seeing Fresno in the Barn that year....Gawd they looked like an NBA team physically.

Fox Sports Net followed Fresno that entire season for a documentary which was an amazing piece (both Minnesota games featured). Would love to see it again.

I just watched it and said the exact same thing! The thing is, he was plagued with a disease...and although I know I could never go through what she did and continually support him, I respect her for it. From what it showed, it never looked like he never loved his family, and surprisingly, didn't seem to stray from her (which they may have just not covered) - he just couldn't kick this addiction. I just hope he can stay clean, I'm sure it will be a struggle everyday of his life, but he does seem like he has a kind heart.

This was a phenomenally done piece, I suggest everyone watches it if they can.

for those of you who, like me, forgot to DVR it- the next showing is Thursday at 7pm

I missed this documentary the first few times it was shown and have been waiting for ESPN's family of stations to re-air it and they finally did this past week. Wow, what a well-done and emotional documentary. I had no idea how hard he fell after his NBA days and what a committed wife and family he has. I hope for their sake and his children's sake that Chris can stay clean. He has a powerful message and a platform to deliver it. A lot of people can learn a lot of things from his mistakes.

Godspeed to the Herron's in what will be a daily battle.

Go Gophers!!

That FSN documentary was amazing. They had something ridiculous like 22 in-season arrests. I think that team epitomized Tarkanian more than any of his UNLV teams did. For the record, I think Tark is amazing, despite all of his transgressions. I just loved his "F you" attitude toward the NCAA.

Have seen it many times and the thing I am amazed at is his candor about his experiences. No dodging, no talking around the issue. He goes right at it and basically takes the blame, which earned nothing but respect from me. Too many athletes in these situations would be spreading blame around like wild fire. Not Herren. He accepts the blame the blame for the decisions and their consequences and the fact that the people in his life stood by him no matter what says alot not only about them but him as well. Undoubtedly, one of the best sports documentaries I have ever seen.

I watched it. I had a little different thought about his wife - it seemed to me like she was ignoring the problem for many years, just letting it go on and pretending there wasn't a problem.

This and Once Brothers are must see 30/30 films.

I haven't heard about Once Brothers. ... who's it about?

Really liked the one on Wayman Tisdale, one of my all-time favorite college basketball players. If folks need an example on how to handle life's adversity with faith, class & dignity, the Tisdale special is a must-see. Tis clearly was a 1st-class human being. Still can't believe he's gone.

The one on Marcus Dupree was good, too.

I agree on the Once Brothers - far and away the best 30 for 30 documentary. Hodger, it's about the relationship between Vlade Divac and Drazen Petrovic - simply amazing. Here is part of it:

Thanks Bleed. I've seen that one (it was excellent) but had forgotten the title.
