I went on to Winsipedia today as I knew the Gophers were undefeated vs both Alabama and Auburn, so I was wondering how many other teams could claim that, knowing that there couldn't be many.
There are 15 teams that are undefeated against Auburn, 10 against Alabama. So the U is in a pretty small club just in that sense.
It turns out there are only two other teams that are unbeaten vs. both. One is Georgia Navy Pre-Flight, which was a WWII Navy flight school located at U of GA that featured NCAA and NFL players. They played both schools in 1942.
The other???
Would you believe the hated Owls of Rice University???
Auburn is 0-2, playing them in 1937 and 1938. Alabama is 0-3, playing them in 1954-1956.
Rice is also undefeated against Georgia in one game. MN has not played Georgia.
MN is undefeated against Rice, 2-0 playing them in 1983 and 1984.
Just thought it was kind of a fun finding. I wouldn't have guessed them unless I eliminated nearly every other D1 team... Heck, I told an Alabama grad it was a university from Texas and he couldn't come up with it!
