Instead of this pissing contest let's get back to the task at hand. How about those T-shirts, I mean hooters in that picture, I mean colors, or Go Gophers.
I blame Dr. Don for losing focus. Let's kick some Hawkeye butt today and leave them battered, bruised and BLUE.
 


How does any of this show the military appreciation anyway? Why not take the $10 people would spend on tshirts or hats they'll only wear once or twice and send some good coffee or comfortable socks to our troops instead? Pretty soon football teams won't even need team colors because every game will be military appreciation or breast cancer awareness or save the whales.


The only thing less meaningful than wearing a tshirt for a cause is to make a Facebook post for a cause. Besides, we each have our own causes to support, why should a university athletics department dictate where my charitable dollars go in order for me to be a good fan? Promote your causes at a tailgate event before/after the game to raise money, not have people buy meaningless apparel.

They aren't selling shirts and they aren't taking donations. They're giving tshirts away on the plaza and in the student tailgate lot.

Wait, so instead of appreciating the military by giving them some comfort supplies to make their lives better, the U is giving shirts to students who are not likely to go into the armed forces to wear at a game many members of the military are unlikely to watch?

Face it, it's really about getting the red,white and blue block M in the hands of fans to wear on all patriotic days throughout the year.
 


I'm not in the habit of wearing red white and blue. I did wear olive drab in the old days before they switched to camouflage.

You could say the same thing about any promotion ever. How about A&M uses the money they did on those throwback unis from last week and gives it to old people who may have played in the age of leather helmets and are living in poverty? (That is meant to sound ridiculous of course)

Maybe the t-shirts were donated or paid for by a veteran. Maybe they were collecting donations at the stadium and felt that by giving away a $2 t-shirt, people would be more inclined to donate. Maybe the U did make a donation to help the military. You're kinda jumping to conclusions without knowing the facts first.

Don't forget, you voluntarily chose to do so (unless you were a draftee during Vietnam or WWII) and were paid to do it. Does that mean we need to turn every single public event into a tribute to you?

I've read everything GoldenGopher88 has typed here. It's beyond ridiculous, too. It's basically "RESPECT ME!" and the like. I get so tired of that. I do respect the military. I do think it's a great job and doing great work. But...it's a job. They're being paid to do it. Much like any job I've ever had, I don't ask for a pat on the back. The thanks I get for doing my job is a paycheck. They get one too. The fact that we need to turn a sporting event that isn't at all related to the ideals of the US or our foreign policy into some circle jerk is stupid. In reality, it waters down the work that the military is doing and is more or less a facade. It's a marketing campaign geared to the white trash guys that have never served to get them into the sport so they can feel like they're 'contributing' too. And god forbid you call those guys out on it.

By the way, GoUGophers was right. The military doesn't give us freedom. The fact that GoldenGopher88 even said that in the first place is ridiculous and symbolic of the ridiculous feelings that I get so tired of.

Exactly. And this is part of 'any promotion ever'. These things, (Susan G. Komen, etc.) are pure pandering. Was there even any part of this promotion that did any tangible good for veterans?

Where have I ever said or asked for you to "respect me?" It's about those who protect and serve our country. Get a clue. If you truely believe people are serving our country because it's only a job and a paycheck, you have more then a few issues your dealing with. Have you ever heard of Pat Tillman? I'm willing to bet "your job" doesn't put you in harms way. Also, dick hair, I've never stated that the military gives us our freedom, but it sure as hell protects it. If you don't appreciate what the military does for you, then get the f*** out of here. You made way too many contradictions in your post to interrupt my celebration party any further.

Bravo. Even with hangknobs like this, I've never questions the motives of why I served our country. I
know I did it for my family, my friends, the men and women who served before me and individuals, like
COACH KILL who appreciate what others have done for them. The rest that don't appreciate, just need
some extensive soul searching. I remind myself when ignorant people write things like this, that they
were probably 5 damn years old when 9/11 happened and instead of watching the news that morning,
they were watching barney..

There are so many grammatical mistakes in this that I now know you had no choice but to join up. Congrats on the Pat Tillman reference. Did you have the same circumstances? No? So it was a paycheck. Also, you did say you gave us freedom. Keep it up, mouth breather.
