USC and UCLA both scheduling hard. USC has the expanded Big Ten gauntlet, plus LSU and Notre Dame.
 




UCLA has had trouble scoring—but understandable against 4 ranked teams. Gopher D needs to play another strong, complete game.

UCLA defense is middle of the pack in the B1G against the rush, despite its tough schedule. But against the pass, UCLA is worst in the B1G. Might be a pass to set up the run kind of game.

For those curious, here are the results after a win Vs. a ranked opponent since 1999.
  • 1999: No. 2 Penn State, then defeated Indiana, 44-20
  • 2000: No. 22 Illinois, then defeated Penn State, 25-16
  • 2000: No. 6 Ohio State, then lost to Indiana, 51-43
  • 2005: No. 11 Purdue, then lost to Penn State, 44-14
  • 2005: No. 21 Michigan, then lost to No. 23 Wisconsin, 38-34
  • 2013, No. 21 Nebraska, then defeated Indiana, 42-39
  • 2014, No. 23 Nebraska, then lost to No. 14 Wisconsin, 34-24
  • 2019, No. 4 Penn State, then lost to No. 20 Iowa, 31-26
  • 2021, No. 14 Wisconsin, then defeated West Virginia, 18-6
  • 2023, No. 24 Iowa, then defeated Michigan State, 27-12
Record is actually 5-5. Three of those losses were to another ranked opponent. Some of those seasons Minnesota went in also ranked.

Fair enough. Thanks for looking this up. One loss after a big upset win that is etched in my mind was our win over #1 Michigan in 1977 (OK that is WAAAYYYYY back). I remember my dad saying, "Boy will they be flat next week in Indiana." We lost that next game against an inferior opponent (compared to Michigan). I looked up that '77 win against Mich: they had 5 turnovers and we had zero, and still only won 16-0. So we may not have been "flat" in Bloomington, IN, we just didn't win the turnover battle 5-0. At any rate, I will be in Pasadena on Saturday cheering on the Maroon and Gold. Go Gophers!
