From our friend SelectionSunday on the Men's Board:

Current non-conference SOS rankings for the University of Minnesota basketball teams:

Men #353 (of 364)
Women #356 (of 362)

Quad 1 & 2 wins between them?

Zero. 👀 💩

Yeah, but we're racking up them wins.

I guess we were due for this to come up again. It had been almost two weeks since everyone complained about the schedule.

Out of curiosity, anyone send an email, letter, or make a call to Dawn/Jason in the Women's basketball program that I provided previously? Curious how it went when all of you told them you know how to schedule better than them?

OR did everyone do nothing but continue to complain?

You're a little repetitive on this topic, too, don't you think? Again, the reason we keep talking about it is that it's going to be a problem.. All. Season. Long. Thanks for the contact info. I'm sure people have proceeded as they feel appropriate.

With the non-conference schedule now complete in the BIG (except for Maryland), it was a fair point for SelectionSunday to bring up final pre-conference non-conference schedule ratings. On both a NET and RPI basis, the Gophers ended up with the least challenging non-conference schedule in the BIG and among the power four conferences.

Other good coaches have had good seasons while playing weak non-conference schedules. Coach P is a good coach. I'm hoping she can do the same.

If it looks like dog, barks like a dog, wags its tail like a dog...it's a dog. The Gophers non-confererence schedule was a dog, no matter how anyone tries to spinn it. Hopefully, it's not a dog that will come back to bite the Gophers when it's NCAA tournament selection time. Love the team, love the coach, but the Gophers have to do better with their future non-conference scheduling.

Oh that means you are tough and smart as long as you hide behind a nameless keyboard. Also, that you don't actually have any interest in hearing what they have to say back to you. Sounds about right with the complainers on here.

You could stop watching the team if you super worried about how the schedule will drag them down all year. No one forcing any of you to watch them.

Sorry, but you don't get to decide who is true fan or not. I've followed and supported this team since the Carol Ann Shudlick days. Maybe you have too, but I doubt it. Just so you know, you can be a fan without wearing blinders. And you could quit reading this message board if it bothers you so much because we're not going anywhere.

My 2 cents, the schedule is what it is. Would I like to have seen more competitive games? Yes, without a doubt. I think scheduling SDSU and Iowa State to get some local teams on the schedule would be awesome. The reality is the non conference schedule was lackluster and the team played who was on the schedule. Now, on to the conference season. Go Gophers.

The same person who warned us that players and coaches read this form is now encouraging fans to stop following the team? Go figure.

Yes and my message hasn't changed. If you do nothing but complain and only harp on negatives or bring up the schedule every game and every day, no one is making you watch this team.

The players, parents, and coaches would love support. Only ever looking for or harping on negtaive is not support.

More people would watch/support if the schedule was better.

And only apathy is not support. Which is where the mens team is now.

Wait a second. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say on another thread that the coaches do read these comments? So why the email suggestion? And if they do read these comments, don't you think repeating the comment more than once or twice or even three times will indicate to those coaches how pissed off people are? And maybe lead them to schedule more competitive teams in the future?

Yes Parents, Coaches and Players have and do look on here. The email/phone number and mailing address was given to start a conversation with those people. They are not creating a contact to come on here. It's for people to share they issues with the staff if they are actually looking to have a conversation or discuss with the people who can actually make a difference instead of just constant complaining.

I'd put you on ignore, but I'd miss your constant complaining.

Nobody knows how good Gopher WBB really is yet because the easiest way to prove you are a tournament-caliber team (what is what the expectation is for Gopher WBB should be by now) is by beating other tournament-caliber teams, not beating up on teams that would be lucky to go better than 0-18 in the Big Ten. Hopefully blowing out Penn State is a sign things will go better than the first game at Nebraska did.

I am assuming that this year's non-conference schedule was already in place before Dawn was hired? I assume it will improve in the future.

I believe I read an article (don't remember where) that said Dawn actually inherited most of last season's schedule from Whalen and that this was the first year she got free reign.

From what I've heard, most of this years schedule was set up by the current coach and her staff. Supposedly teams were picked based on their style of play, rather than how good they are.
If they continue to win their conference games, it won't matter. But if they finish below 500, it will come back to bite them.
