U Game Minimal Payday for Aggies, Kill

It won’t be a big payday for the New Mexico State football program when the Aggies play in Minneapolis September 1 against the Golden Gophers. Through a Sports Headliners discovery request to the University of Minnesota, it was learned the Aggies, under new head coach Jerry Kill, will receive a guarantee of $250,000 for the game at Huntington Bank Stadium.

Two other Minnesota 2022 nonconference opponents, Western Illinois and Colorado, will each receive guarantees of $450,000 to play in Minneapolis. Unlike the Aggies and Colorado who are FBS programs, Western Illinois is at the lower Football Championship Subdivision level.

New Mexico State will play two other Power Five programs in addition to the Gophers in 2022. The Aggies have a guarantee of $1.4 million to play at Wisconsin and $1.6 million for their game at Missouri, according to a story last January by the Las Cruces Sun News.

They payout is less because we gave them a home game in the deal when McKinley Boston was AD at NMSU.

We play one game there and they can broadcast on Aggie Vision, and we get two games in Minnesota.

This year is game 4 of the series with NMSU (2011, 2013, 2018 and 2022). Was 2011 a one-off, and then a 3-year deal?

It's all part of an ongoing Minnesota conspiracy to disrespect The Old Ball Coach. First we fired his man Claeys, then we said the culture needed changing, then Bos McKinley gave away the farm while masquerading as NMS AD (and knowing eight years ago that Old Jer would take the wheel in 2022).

And you wonder why Kill is coming undone?

So this is interesting. I always figured Group of 5 and FCS received money for playing a Power 5 team in an away game. Is that the same with Power 5 teams, too?

Each punt they enforced, we give them another $1,000

Each pass completion they get, we give them another $5,000

Each first down they get, we give them another $10,000

Each sack they get, we give them another $25,000

Each interception they get, we give them another $50,000

Each field goal they get, we give them another $100,000

Each touchdown they get, we give them another $250,000

If they win, they get another $500,000

We gave them a sweet deal 🤷🏻‍♂️
 



Whats most interesting to me is why do we need to give a Big 12 team (Colorado) 450K guarantee? Is that normal for P5 to give other P5 schools guarantees?

Colorado is a PAC 12 team.

I think the guarantee covers travel costs. I would guess the Gophers got the same last year for going out there, but don't know for sure.

You forgot the first part in the conspiracy to disrespect him was hiring him in the first place.

I really would not be surprised if what was reported about the CU game was indeed a mistake.

Usually when you do home-and-home with a school, you don't pay. That's the point ... you only pay if it's a one-off home game for yourself.

I would assume there would be some quid-pro-quo, Colorado paid the Gophers when they went to Boulder and Minnesota will pay the Buffalos when they come to Minneapolis.

Keeps the annual budget in order as well as incentive for Colorado to honor the return game instead of bail. Not sure how it worked out in 2001 when Baylor eventually bailed on playing at the Dome following the postponement the Saturday after 9-11.

I assume the whole thing was Cancelled as the Gophers return game (2025 per your link) was nixed. BYU entering the Big 12 I am sure impacted there availability. Bummed out, I was looking forward to perhaps attending both games, including the one in Provo.
