A) A power coach who is bigger than the AD and the President. Someone who has the ear of the Governor and the Regents and can go over the heads of the AD and President to get what he needs.

B) A governor like Arne Carlson who is a big cheerleader for the program and is visible at games.

It needs to be a total cultural change. Mason took the program as far as it can go until the support from the top, and by top, I mean the Governor's Mansion on Summit and U administration. We need to do more than fire Brew.

If the program is a tooth, Brewster is a mere cavity. The U needs a root canal and a crown.

I think you might be overrating the what fan support from a state government can do.

Gov. Hoeven in North Dakota is a big Bison fan and is at almost every game and they have yet to make the playoffs since becoming eligible for post season (Bohl's had one winning season with his own recruits).

State political figures need to stay somewhat neutral. Just because your a fan of a school doesn't mean you can pump money into it, what about the other schools in your state?

Wheaton, that is true, but you missed the point.

A transformation of culture or I say keep Brewster and make the present level of performance acceptable. The Governor, Regents, President, and AD need to say football matters. The Governor controls the funding, the Regents need to demand more, the President needs to do more than fight for beer in the expensive seats, and the AD needs to get over the success of his non-revenue sports.

Leadership is needed at all levels. Non-Revenue coaches need to hear that it's going to be tough until the football program gets turned around, and tough could mean elimination. Change needs to start at the top.

If change means firing Brewster and taking another chance on an up and coming coach, a hot coordinator, or a big name who's resume has been tarnished, I say no thanks. Waste of money and Glen Mason is your guy. It'll be no better than what he did. Firing Brewster doesn't mean we are committed to winning and won't accomplish it, although I don't see how he can stay after this year.

Maturi and Bruinicks' replacement needs to have some courage. A successful commitment to winning will unearth 5-10 more Denny Sanfords. A paradigm shift is in dire need. If the state and university isn't able to see this, then TCF was a stupid investment.
