U confidence has SIN-BAD riled up

Don't we often discuss how pathetic it is when we find out buckyville has threads dedicated to talking about Gopher football...?

When's the last time a Madison newspaper wrote a story about the Gophers football team?

Yes, let's not talk about one of Minnesota's biggest rivals. Better yet, let's not talk about any team unless we beat them.

He's talking about what he's going to do with the axe after we beat them. Having confidence is one thing; talking about what we'll do after we beat a team we haven't in 10 years is another.

I remember the confidence exhibited by "Hurricane" Peter McNeeley back in August of 1995.....hopefully the "cocoon of horror" the Gophers can wrap the Badgers in will have a different result!

The fact that a number of you think bulletin board material or trash talking in a rivalry game actually matters is laughable. Both of these teams will be ready to play no matter what is, or is not said.

I don't think it matters; I just think it's stupid to talk when you haven't beaten someone in a while...

I think it's stupid to talk about the past seasons now that we've arrived in 2014. None of the previous games won or lost will have any effect on the outcome of the upcoming games.

Sure they will. Most of the players have played in previous games. If the previous games didn't matter, we could recruit a group of players who've never played a game of football before and the likely outcome would be the same.

The games whether won or lost don't matter, the players do. Motivation is very overrated in sports. It makes victory sweeter if we pull off the upset, but it won't have a part in the game.

Yes, and the games that they have previously played in absolutely do matter. Whether they were won or lost in the past will not decide whether this game will be won or lost, you're right, but the fact that the games were played and that our players played in them absolutely does matter and does make a difference. A huge one, in fact.

Here's my best idea for the Badger game: Gophers win the game, and act like it's no big deal. They saunter over, pick up the Axe, and stroll off the field, paying no attention to the Badger fans or players. After the game, when reporters ask them about it, every single gopher player says the same thing: "We expect to win."

Agreed. I'm just mocking the people who say we shouldn't talk about winning before we actually win, the simpletons who only look at the previous W/L column to determine if we have a chance this year.

BS. We're tearing the goal posts down and using them as a battering ram to storm into the room where they keep the slab of bacon and take that home too.

My experience playing sports, especially football, leads me to disagree with this statement.
Let me amend my statement. "extra motivation between rivals is irrelevant". Both teams will always be fully motivated for this game.

Agreed. This is often the deciding factor. I think (and coach Kill clearly agreed) that the team lacked determination in the opening quarters of the bowl game. A game they probably thought was theirs for the taking. This is where leadership and team chemistry becomes really important. I like the leadership on the team. I do think we'll miss Hill a little bit in that regard but some of the other guys are picking up the slack.

I disagree. When we win they players deserve to be as obnoxious and rub it in you're face as they wish. They will have earned it and its kinda a big deal.

This was a cool moment. Wouldn't mind seeing something like this again. Madison or Ann Arbor. Or Both. Let's try for both.
