Despite the Gophers being 4-2, despite them winning today and moving the ball on the ground somewhat effectively, I have NEVER in my life have seen such NEGATIVE fans (and I'm a long suffering NYJ fan). The team fought back @ home, pounding the ever living crap out of an overmatched Perdue team and there are a tons of threads out here (while the game is going on) that are so freaking negative. Lets grow up and actually ROOT for the home team for a change! Some of you go into crisis mode after the first series of the game....please! ENOUGH already!

Thanks

Please see my "Which Home Team had a "better" day?" thread and add this to that one as well. You are SOOOOOOOO right. "Theilleagle" amazes me. I can't believe someone would waste 2000 plus posts on this board as a "fan". Go away.

I don't think anyone's not rooting for the team. I agree people overreacted early and I made comments to the effect at the time, however there were genuinely a lot of discouraging things today that most people can't overlook. I don't think that constitutes the lack of support for the program you're implying.

you just live to be a contrarian don't you?! man, are your responses and their general tone predictable! ;)

Predictable in that I generally try to look at things dispassionately and be as honest as I can be yes.

Anyone calling for firings based on one quarter of play is absolutely letting their emotions get the better of them that much I agree with. It's silly and reactionary.

The problem is that every week is same negative crap that people post. Why not try and look at the good things that happen each week, win or lose. Is it so much more fun to always look for what is wrong? Maybe, everyone is audtioning for the local media!!! Be Gopher Supporters.

I agree...let's take a win and act like there's no need for improvement.......

We won our first 2 games with a putrid running game. Koolaid Drinkers say "Hey we won so it doesn't matter!"

The common fan said "We won but we really have to improve our running game or else we'll struggle against better teams."

Depends on whether you live in reality or fantasy........

Let's just all celebrate the "W" and worry about Penn State on Monday.......

If you want mediocre, then rah rah rah. I am sick and tired of the Wacker, Salem, Gutenkunst and Mason crap. Now we have Brewster sticking with an inferior Division III qb.

Welcome to the Gopherhole, Tuffguy. If you haven't been here long you'll learn who are the eternal pessimists, pessimistic realists and koolaid drinking optimists are. The one thing we all have in common? We're a bunch of @$$holes who think we know something about college football. The joke's on us.

BTW, I'm in your boat, but I'm practically bathing in the koolaid, so my opinion doesn't count. Especially after this "terrible" performance against a "terrible" Purdue team. Who are we to have the gall to say we played a good game? Or that Weber should continue to signal call for this team?

I love it.

ok..... i said i was not going to do this but.... first none of the players on the team felt they played a good game today as far as a team effort goes.....i talked to a few of them after the game so that alone is a sign of maturity which you must display in order to bridge the gap from being a good team to an elite team.
second.... good teams take care of business by beating teams they are suppose to beat and competing with teams they are suppose to loose to that means finding a way to win against teams you are suppose to beat when they show up to play or you are not playing well so far that has happened. before i get accused of kool aide drinking let me point out that we are not an elite team because we have to beat somebody we are not suppose to beat.
third... good teams find a way to put them selves in position to win games that has happened as well. i will also point out out that elite teams find away to make plays to win those games so far we have not done that we are 1 play away 1 interception away 1 fumble recovery away 1 dropped pass away one inaccurate pass away one defensive stop away from being 6 and 0
finally with all of that said we are a good team not an elite team yet last year we were average we lost games we were not suppose to loose we were not in games and we did not make enough plays. also the maturity level and the way the players themselves go about the business of football point to growth and improvement it may be subtle but it is drastic. the culture has changed. when the players themselves say we won but i dont like how we did it the culture has changed. keep in mind that 2008 was this staffs first recruiting class the way you build any winning program on any level is you change the culture. you have to fix little things and big things take care of them selves and from where i sit big things are just one play away.

All of the negativity is really just embarrassing to the people who are being that way. Find something to be happy about. Or, just keep crying and whining about things you can't control. Listen: Complaining now and then is fine, but when it becomes your whole identity...

I agree, but I still think Brew deserves a couple more years to see how his program is going to develop. He has definitely not gotten over the Wacker, Salem, Gutenkunst and Mason hump yet especially when it comes to the defense. He needs more time to see if he can. It is all about recruiting!!!

Khaliq...

I understand your point. On the other hand, no one is perfect, including this Gopher team. I watched most of the Florida-LSU game and parts of the Iowa-Michigan game. None of the four teams were perfect.

Do the Gophers have a ways to go yet? Absolutely. As it has been said before on this board and should be reiterated again, Rome was not built in a day. I, too, would like to see the Gophers play "better" - pound the rock; Weber 16 for 16 for 250 yards, 3 TDs, and no INTs; two picks by the defense; holding the opponents to less than 250 yards total offense and a 3rd down efficiency of 25% or less; etc. That said, as far yesterday's game is concerned, I think we both would prefer to win (whether that win was "ugly" or "brutal" or whatever) then to "lose pretty" ...after all, a win is a win, and takes us one step closer to a bowl game and the next level - the top tier in the Big 10/11.

We should savor the victory for a day, then forget about it tonight and move on to our next challenge - Penn State. The team needs to learn from our mistakes and strive to improve.

As far as Gopher football fans are concerned you have to prove it's koolaide before I'll drink it. It has been so long without a lot of positives.

The win over Purdue was huge. The most critical of Bewster's tenure in my mind. I did not see the first half but from the second half they found a way to win while not playing all that great. That is very important in the scheme of things.

I watched the Wisconsin/Ohio State game and I thought Wisconsin controlled the line of scrimage. I think the statistics bare that out. They made a ton of mistakes that cost them the game. From that game I think Minnesota can play with Ohio State and probably Penn State. They can't make mistakes but there is a way they could win one of these. Momentum can be a funny thing.

Thank you Captain Hyperbole. :p
