Two more Quad 4s for the Gophers, per Alex Rosinski

With the teams that have already been announced for the Charleston Classic, pretty safe bet both will be Quad 2 (based on last season final NET ranking) opponents. Or a Quad 2 & a Quad 3 at worst.

Nov 6 St Thomas
Nov 12 Southern
Nov 16 Western Illinois
Nov 20/22 Charleston Tournament
Nov 28 California
Dec 12 SMU
Dec 16 Texas Southern
Dec 20 Alcorn St
Dec 29 Texas San Antonio

With one more quad 4 coming...how can anyone say this is a challenging, good, acceptable, smart, excellent preparation for the conference ... non conference schedule? We are in the Big Ten.
Or is it just me?

Depending on who they draw in the Charleston tournament, there's probably 4 games against other Power 5 teams. That's not terrible. But I hope they add one more and it's a home game.

Don't we have UND on November 2nd as well?

I kind of like the schedule flow. Start with UST/NDSU for fan interest, and play a couple lesser opponents to find lineups/rotations, then go to Charleston for 2 tough games followed by testing Cal/SMU. After those 4 games we will have a good indication of the Gophers mettle. Get healthy and rested for BigTen schedule with some Q4 games in late Dec. Its good.

I'm totally fine with this if the last game is a decent / high major opponent at home. Give the fans SOMETHING please.

Otherwise the mix is fine for me.

It takes two to tango.

You can't just schedule who you want when you want. It takes a willing partner and open dates.

I see your point and guess I didn't think about the home fans who attend the games, wanting a Q1/2 game in the Barn. That's a tough ask unless a school agrees to a home and home series like Mizzou sort of did. The Big Ten/ACC Challenge had a good vibe but that's done. MN is a tough place to play and I can see why Power schools aren't lining up because the improving Gophers are quite frankly, scary games for them. The Big Ten conf games are all terrific, so there is your March Madness strength of schedule automatically taken care of.

This feels like what most P5 (outside of the powerhouses) will do with the new 76 team field. Get to 18 wins, be above 500, be in a P5 league and make the tournament.

I absolutely hate it but I suppose I see the logic

Plus will have two December conference games between Charleston and the Cal/SMU games

FWIW I hope we find a decent opponent to come to the barn in the non con, did college hoops change and now we can play 32 games (12 non con instead of 11)?
