Twitter is my personal favorite for social media. I don't follow Nadine Babu, but I noticed a retweet from Glen Mason as follows:

We saw an ambulance leave #tcfbank after the game today, does anyone know if was Kill? If so, hoping he is ok. #gophers

For me, this is one of the downsides of Twitter. I know that Nadine is not part of the traditional media, but she does have a blog entry on the Star Tribune and is one of the administrators of this site. I don't like the speculative tweet. Even if it turned out to be Coach Kill, what's the point? If this were Reusse tweeting this, he'd catch grief. #disturbing

Noticed this from Mason too. Extremely irresponsible considering there are thousands of people in and around the stadium. So irresponsible it makes me think she knows something and put it out there like that (probably unlikely she'd know and nobody else would).

Mason is a tool. He wants so desperately for Kill to fail so he doesn't look bad. Every week he makes ridiculous statements that confirm why he's a loser. He delights in Minnesota failures and down plays the successes. Best to just ignore him and stay focused on the obvious upward path this program is taking.

I'd be willing to guess the ambulance was stationed there for the game. I'm pretty certain that there is an ambulance there for each game in case of emergency.

Mason retweeted. He didn't write. Babu did.

I am one of the biggest Mason haters in GopherHole but I don't believe there is a shred of truth in your post. I believe Mason likes and admires Kill and wants him to succeed even in ways that he himself failed as Gophers coach. I have come around to the point of view that Mason is a pretty good guy. I just didn't like him as our coach.

I would guess the same. Probably a couple of attorneys waiting in the back seat also.:)

FYI, Coach Kill is on the radio right now, so I think he's probably fine.

Expand Nadine's tweet, it sounds like a fan may have collapsed in the second deck. That was according to others at the game so nothing official, but could have been the cause for the ambulance. Hope everyone is alright.

Agreed...Mason knows his ship has sailed and has no anomosity toward Coach Kill. Now if you mention Brewster...

WTF? What a load of BS. Mason doesn't want Kill to fail, in reality he could probably care less whether Kill fails or succeeds. Brewster already proved to the fan base that Mason was not as bad as some thought he was.

I know people like to jump up and down about Mason, but Nadine is the one who was acting wildly irresponsible here. She's the one who started this fire. I expect more out of her.

This is ridiculous, Brewster maybe but not Kill, I don't think anybody can meet Jerry Kill and wish for him to fail.

Mason does nothing but talk favorably about the Gophers and coach Kill. Get a clue. The more I watch him on BTN the more I like him.

Agree, all you Mason hater's can stick it where the sun don't shine! He and wife Kate still live in Minnesota. I've been around Glen both at functions and in private and he has always been very cordial. Yes, he had some coaching liabilities, but he is still a big fan of Minnesota and was
A big reason why we got the stadium pushed through the legislature. Carrie Rude was State Senator at that time out of Crow Wing County and one of the reasons she voted "yes"
was because of the way Mason addressed the House and Senate.

You're entitled to your opinions certainly, but in my opinion, I don't see how this is irresponsible. Did I say anything happened to Kill? No. I simply stated what we saw, it was an ambulance leaving the stadium, probably about an hour after the game, with flashing lights. Typical, if you leave with flashing lights, there is someone in it. Also, I was in section 216 where we saw the gentleman being taken out from what looked to be a heart attack, it was scary to see that. I can't remember timing, but I'm guessing that was about 2 hours before we saw this ambulance. I'm not doctor, but if someone's having a heart attack and they're 4 blocks from the hospital, I'm guessing they wouldn't keep the patient at The Bank for that long, they would take them to the hospital immediately.

Just like the rest of you, I use Twitter as a resource, which is why I asked the question. With 2800 followers, I thought there would be a chance someone could confirm or deny. That's why I asked the question. And I don't think my question was that far off base seeing as the last time we saw an ambulance leave with its lights flashing well after the game, it was Coach Kill. If you think asking a question is wildly irresponsible, I'm sorry you feel that way.

Oh, and btw - Mason is a huge Jerry Kill fan. Really likes him, and thinks he's a good coach.

All Nadine did was tweeted a simple question, looking to see if there was any chance of an answer. For all of you "over analyzers" settle down for crying out loud.

Some of you have a long ways to go to become as smart as ya think ya are, so have a beer and study hard.

Probably a more responsible tweet would have read: "Just saw an ambulance leave TCF. Anyone know if it was somebody related to the team? If so, hopefully they are ok."

Just my opinion.

I don't think Nadine was irresponsible. She's a Gopher fan and it was her honest thought of what was going on. Intentions matter a lot and I highley doubt Nadine was trying to stir the pot. I'm sure she was genuinely concerned about whether or not everyting was ok with Coach Kill's health.

As far as Mason. . .he has done nothing but talk favorably about Kill and he seems to be a Gopher football supporter.

That's a pretty slanted question. Everyone would know what she is referencing. I would rather she just flat out say it.

How is that a slanted question? She could have been referring to any one of the 100+ players/coaches on the team. Yes, I understand that most people would have thought she was referencing the coach - but it at least wouldn't have led to people speculating that he had another seizure (as was the case with a few of my friends who aren't as into the Gopher world, but do follow Mason on twitter).

I just think that as a "journalist" (as people look to her for facts...even though she is a blogger) - a little more restraint is needed. Although, we have obviously seen over the past couple years that the line between Journalism and "Fan-dom" gets more blurry.

Like I said, it was just my opinion, as I received a number of texts from friends of other Big Ten teams that were wondering about Coach Kill.

Nadine, when you put Coach Kill's name in the question, you stepped onto very thin ice.

Totally irresonsible to tweet that by Nadine. In regards to Mason, all of the comments I have heard from him have been very positive about Coach Kill.

I strongly disagree that Mason has malevolent motives regarding the Gopher program. He is satisfied with his second career and understands that only retirement is next, not another HC job. All comments that I have heard from Mason indicate he is still a strong supporter of Kill and the Gopher program.

was not coach kill. i believe this was the gentleman up in our section who was having a medical emergency late in the game. the EMT's, stadium security were attending to him for several minutes. he was super pale and looked to have gone unconscious. i have to think it was likely this man. hope is is okay.

I concur. And just to clarify, an ambulance uses lights when they are going somewhere in a hurry. They don't necessarily have anyone on board. And some drivers who just want to get people to move for them may flip on the lights against protocol. And after a game is over, not only would they be trying to get out amongst lots of people but they may have another assignment/call to get to.

no offense, but unless you are also now a trained medical professional let's not also start speculating on exactly what was wrong with the gentleman we both saw. i highly doubt you know for sure whether he had a heart attack, fainted, or if it was something else entirely. for all we know, it may have been something where they could simply treat him on site with fluids/IV, etc. to see if he could just fully recover on site. perhaps he did and taking him to a hospital was purely precautionary.

again, unless we have hard evidence/facts, i have to agree that it is somewhat irresponsible to even vaguely insinuate, ask the question, or invoke coach kill's name into it the way you did on twitter. i don't think the way it was put out there on twitter is fair at all to coach kill. just my two cents.

that said, i still enjoy your stuff and think you do a fine job here and in your minneapolis star tribune blog. keep up the good work. just suggesting in the future it might be better to think deeper if that kind of tweet is fair without really knowing/confirming any of the facts involved.

You accurately point out that they would have obviously thought she was referring to Coach Kill, yet you somehow are arguing that people wouldn't have been speculating about a possible seizure? That doesn't make sense. The reason that people would have immediately thought of Kill is because of his seizure issue.

It seems like the people who are bashing Nadine for this tweet are doing so because they wanted the tweet to be more cryptic. Either way, people would have been worried about Coach Kill and they would have been worried about him because of a possible seizure. Making it more cryptic does absolutely nothing.

What are you talking about?

People speculate on health issues of other people ALL THE TIME. When we see a player get laid out and lay on the field woozy, we all think (or say), "looks like he has a concussion". It's not reckless and usually comes from a place of concern. When I saw Marcus Lattimore hurt his knee, I was talking to a friend and we both were talking about how he blew out his knee and we hoped his career wouldn't be over. Why would that be wrong?

I feel bad for Coach Kill in that his medical issues are public and I imagine it is annoying. However, that's not going to stop people from worrying about him, because we like him and we hope the best for him. You seem to be expecting her to either be cryptic in her tweet and avoiding the elephant in the room or your asking her to see a situation and not have a natural response.
