For what it's worth, despite rumors to the contrary, a staff member w/ the #Gophers says that Troy Stoudermire is in school, & working out.

There were rumors to the contrary? I heard speculation but I never actually heard anything of substance that I would consider a rumor.

Given he can contribute at both WR and DB (and both areas look a little light on depth right now), I'm curious as to how Kill uses him. I think he has the potential to be a top-notch DB. His instincts at that position seem to be sterling. At the same time, we are going to need help at WR, where he has played fairly well.

I'm just glad he's back and working out. He's a very good football player.

We had a thread where people were tracking who was registered for classes and I'm pretty sure that the "rumor" was squashed when he finally registered. To hear it from an actual coaching source is good though.

OneStop is not a reliable source for information. Have people not learned that yet.

In this day and age everything is a source until the truth comes out. Look at the Cutler story. 100% of the stories were based on tweets. Where are all the tweeters now?

I think it is reliable, but not updated in real-time. If it says someone is registered, they are. If it doesn't say they are, it doesn't mean that they aren't (yet).

great to hear. With troy and Kim, I'm much more comfotrable with our D outlook.

If it were me, I'd have him start at CB and maybe play selectively on offense as a WR slot guy. Move him around a little bit and give him a few end arounds every game. I'd limit him to 10-12 plays on offense per game but I think he's good enough to get some action on offense.

Just my opinion.

The slotback/wr is right now the weakest position on offense, and it seems to be fairly critical in Kill and Limegrover's scheme. Eskridge could possibly be used from time to time, but typically those fly/speed sweeps require elite speed and the ability to cut upfield without slowing down.
If Troy could run 5 of those a game, he'd be an effective weapon on O, but he needs to concentrate on his defensive position where he could end up being an impact guy every defensive down. If Marcus Jones is going to play slot WR/HB he'll be the long term heir apparent and possibly play alot next year depending on his development. We still need more of these slot types to make this offense buzz though.

I agree. He looked good at CB, especially for switching mid-season (correct?). He's just too explosive with the ball in the open field to not have him on offense for a few plays (end around, bubble screens, etc).

Between starting CB, starting KR, and spot WR, he should be a busy boy. Glad he's staying.

I think Bennett would be a better option at that position than Eskridge. Bennett is quicker and has better hands.

Yep, sometimes a blind squirrel finds a nut. I'm guessing the coaches felt he would be better on offense because of his explosiveness but he just never panned out. His hands are not very good and he runs bad routes. Obviously, it was a mistake by the old staff.

If, by "blind squirrel", you mean "right on ~99% of the things he posts here", then yes, I am a blind squirrel.

That made me almost spit my lunch out. That's funny.

I think it is reliable, but not updated in real-time. If it says someone is registered, they are. If it doesn't say they are, it doesn't mean that they aren't (yet).

But it gives false positives and false negatives. Year after year we have people stalking OneStop and year after year it proves unreliable.

That was one of my thoughts as well. I think he has a real future as a CB and will get a look by the pros at that position. But he can also get downfield as a WR and is very elusive on screens and slants (and returns of course).

I just think he's a darn good football player.

Kind of reminds me of Ghostbusters:

Dr Ray Stantz: Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by d**kless here.
Walter Peck: They caused an explosion!
Mayor: Is this true?
Dr. Peter Venkman: Yes it's true... this man has no d**k.

I heard that the new coaching staff was going to make the players all wear crewcuts during the season.

I also heard that taking trolley cars to games will be obsolete in the near future.

If you read the thread it was entirely explained that it might not be to date and very few people were speaking in absolutes. It came to the conclusion that at that time, the registry wasn't showing that Edwards and Stoudermire were enrolled.

No one was saying that it was absolute or anything anywhere near that. It proved to be 50% accurate and that is better than most rumors around here.

As far as it being "stalking", that's pretty absurd. It is a matter of putting people's into a public database, so if that is stalking, then you are stalking any person that you've ever googled.

For what it's worth, I hope Troy stays.. The guy's got a nose for the ball on defense.. Can't forget his last tackle this past year as the ball-jarring tackle that clinched the Iowa game. I say keep him at DB.

But, if he goes all Jewan Edwards on us.. I'm totally ok with him being cut loose.

The registration stuff really doesn't work. Registration for next semester's classes starts long before finals of the current semester. Therefore, even if a player fails out it doesn't mean they couldn't have already signed up for classes and appear in OneStop as registered. You also have a lot of players that will register late for whatever reason so people tend to get really excited or down about X player leaving when in reality it is just somebody procrastinating. It isn't like players, or normal students for that matter, have a hard time getting in to a class during the first week of class.

Also, I didn't say stalking players, I said stalking OneStop as in people are all over that site constantly seeing what has changed and for generally no reason. Over the years the hit rate is well below 50%--particularly in the fall when most of the OneStop stalking occurs.
