I love their 24 hour marathon. Very cool.

Unless you are a season ticket holder of a team playing a home game at 5:00 a.m. Concept is nice, but it doesn't work for everyone.

Don't forget:Miami at #19 Memphis 11pm Monday-ESPN
Nevada or Pacific vs UCLA 10:30pm Tuesday -ESPNU
Who is doing the marathon?

If I get what homework I need to get done, well, done I'm in. Lets see who can last the longest.

Obviously, the time for sleep is between the end of the St. John's game (like 4:00 AM EST) and the beginning of either the noon (EST) or 2:00 (EST) game. It would be a foolish waste of sleep to sit through the following list of games instead of retiring:
Central Michigan @ Hawaii, 3 a.m. (ESPN)
Stony Brook @ Monmouth, 5 a.m. (ESPN)
Robert Morris @ Kent State, 7 a.m. (ESPN)
Northeastern @ Southern Illinois, 9 a.m. (ESPN)
Oral Roberts @ Tulsa, 11 a.m. (ESPN)

I think even if you miss all of the above games, you could still watch all of the better teams in this event without depriving yourself of any sleep. So that's what I'd recommend. Unless you have a DVR and just want to record them all and watch them at your convenience, which is another good choice.

Bring it!

Got what I needed to get done tonight. So just settling down into the couch to watch 24 hours of heaven and get some studying done at the same time.

What do you guys say live post this thing? Last man standing is declared the winner? LETS GET IT!!!!

Boiler what's up with Purdue falling one spot in the coaches' poll?

Boiler what's up with Purdue falling one spot in the coaches' poll?

I'm not to concerned about it. Purdue hasn't lost yet nor tested at all, and they shouldn't been tested either, so that can't be the reason. The first set of real games are in this 24 hours of greatness, so that isn't the answer either. Personally I consider it just early season chatter in the polls but many are contributing to the fact that Hummel tore his ACL. But as I said I'm not worried about it.

I don't see it listed here but so far this Miami(FL)/Memphis game is pretty solid.

EDIT: Whoops, sorry gloved.

Where does this day rank in pantheon of great day of college hoops? Top 5? 10? Top 15?

The number one day of college hoops each year is the first day of the first round of the NCAA Tournament (not counting play-in games).

Well, it's got be behind every day of the Tourney and selection Sunday for sure. That's what? 12 spots right there.

Oh no doubt, but I was going to toss in the pretty much the entire NCAA tourny and Selection Sunday(BTW SS are you going to be staying up with us all night?) but there isn't much after that.

What about Saturday of conference tournys? That is up there. Maybe a random Saturday or two during conference play?

I'm a big fan of the tournaments coming up (Puerto Rico, 76 Classic, Old Spice, Maui, Great Alaska Shootout) because there are a plethora of high major v. high major OOC games. Also the Big Ten/ACC challenge. I heard the Big 12/Pac-10 Challenge will not be renewed after this year. That's a shame.

Feast week? Time for a nap. I don't think I'm going to make it too long. My sons are going to wake me up a 7:00Am and I need some sleep so I can watch hoops all day.

I think after a few more years the marathon can gain some steam. Some better matchups would help it grow.

Your overnight games are always going to be pretty marginal. But even thought this first game makes me be even more thankful for being a B10 basketball fan(you know defense, smart play, little stuff like that) it isn't a bad match-up.

This Miami-Memphis game is getting brutal. 384 fouls for both teams, Memphis can't box out, missed dunks on breakaways, sketchy defense, 3 point % way below the Mendoza line, the list goes on and on. Needless to say the team who makes there free throws is going to win this won-so pretty much Memphis has no reason to lose.

Anyway welcome to hour 3. How many brave souls do we have out there still?

Fantastic end to that game - Memphis played great defense at the end. After shooting like 3-21, Pastner drew up a great 3 pt play for Crawford. You all know I'm a Josh Pastner fan, but I continue to be impressed with his poise, especially with such a young team. This Memphis squad only has 1 senior, and I think 3 juniors - if these kids stick around, I can only imagine them in a year or two.

Each team had 29 fouls - aggressive (or sloppy) game.

That was a great ending to the game, although if I was Pastner I would have fouled the U when they were up three with about 10 sec left. But it games like that that make me love the fact I'm a B10 fan. After watching that I would have a hard time seeing any CUSA challenging them over a entire conference slate.

Now on to St. John's-St. Mary's. Both of these teams like to get up and down and court. Some super athletic plays especially by St. Johns. Not to mention we have had first Gene Keady sighting of the year.

You sticking around GL?

I love me some Gene Keady! I've actually been sick for days, and been just sleeping non-stop - but for some reason, I can't turn this off and go to bed (probably not helping me kick this cold). College Basketball is my speed.

I was really disappointed when Keady decided he was going to be a Special Assistant at St. John's. Over the past few year, last year especially, Keady spent a lot of time around the Purdue team. It's never a bad thing to have that extra person around a team.

Right now you get the feeling that St. Johns just isn't going to win this game. It seems like every time Saint Marys needs a big bucket, big stop, or even a call they get it. Not to mention that the crowd is into the game big time.

BTW could St. Mary's have any more skinny, scruffy looking Australian kids with terrible beards on there team?

I'm back after spending a few hours sleeping(2 hour that turned into a 3.5 hour nap) I am ready to go for the rest of the marathon. I survived until 6 AM, which I didn't think was too bad. Lets get some real college basketball team playing now.

Good work boiler. After I pick my boys up from pre-school @ 11:30, I will have all day to sit in front of the TV. Next year someone should organize some kinda pledge drive for Gopherhole around the hoops marathon.

There could be a lot fun stuff we could do with marathon. Get a chat room going. Predict winners, give out crappy awards for staying up, or the latest best predications. See who drinks the most and least caffeine. I'm all in to come up with some great ideas for next year.

Best part about today is that hey have all been great games, no blowouts, for the most part great basketball being played.

Right now I am watching Rectal Roberts-Tulsa game. Fun indeed.
