Maybe it's worked in the past, but Tubby's "motivational" rants, calling out players doesn't seem to be working so far in Iowa City.

If anything, the guys look more tentative out there. They're not playing with any confidence whatsoever; they look scared to make a single mistake.

Exhibit A with Sampson on that play. Iverson on the previous one...Rodney on every shot so far.

Edit: With 10 min or left in the first half, we had scored 6 pts total, in 10 minutes of play. It didn't look like any "fire" was lit IMO.

You say you want additional fire, and improved fundamentals and you start Rodney at the 2 guard... Go figure!

Tubby finally put some more guards out there

and things look much better. We had no movement on offense and inadequate quickness to defend the three with the BIG starting lineup. Like it or not, we're going to need to ride the freshmen guards.

about those 6 straight points...

Was Rodney playing the 2? No. Rodney belongs at the 3 or 4 spot at this point in his career. good playing but Rodney and also Ahanmisi showing some game.

The 2 and 3 are more often than not interchangeable.

Good run

Best 8-10 minute stretch in a few weeks. Keep it going.

Good 24-6 run. Settle down now boys, the game is, after all, 40 minutes.

Rodney is playing great. If he can play with this type of fire and confidence all the time it will really add another dimension to this team that we desperately need. Maybe it'll even shut up all the people who relentlessly hate on him on this board.

Can Rodney please attach rebounds the rest of his career the way he did in the last 10 minutes of the first half!! The jump shot was a bonus but his aggressiveness was something I don't think we have seen very much of this season.

30 - 20 at half, seems like it worked ...

Maybe Rodney has been reading my rants in this forum...Now, if we could get Mbakwe involved!

Good win today! Iowa played/shot terrible but I thought the team showed a ton of aggressiveness. Hope we see that over the final month of the season!

People should know by now not to start threads about the game until the end of the game.

I understand what you're saying, but I think that if there was truly a fire lit, they would've come out with it (which they didn't for the first 10 min of the game).

I don't think we played harder/better because Tubby decided to rip a few players. We were due for a good game, and we weren't playing OSU, Purdue, or IL.

We were playing Iowa, and an Iowa team that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. We could play the same way we did against IL and still beat Iowa by 10.

So if the Gophers lose, it didn't work, and if they win, it didn't work either. Convenient.

Pretty much summed it up actually.

I don't think win or lose, Tubby ripping a few guys will make them play any differently. In my opinion, it didn't look like Iverson, Williams, Hoffarber, or anyone else was playing any different tonight than they were in the IL game.

The only difference, IMO, was that we were playing Iowa, and Matt Gatens and Aaron May were guarding Rodney, not Mike Davis, Jereme Richmond, E'Twaun Moore, or David Lighty. Little bit of a difference there.

Must be fun going through life with planned excuses to assure you can't be wrong.

I saw a difference in Rodney. Usually he doesn't show any aggressiveness until late in the game. In this game, I think he had 11 points already by half-time.

SGL is just mad that Tubby said something about his boy Blake.

Who cares if it "worked" or not - we won.

I thought Hoff played more in control and looked to move the ball and get others involved way more than against Illinois...plus the team as a whole played with more poise...with a few exceptions, I would say we played better and how Tubby wants them to play...so my vote is it worked.

Trevor has also been much more involved since his call out before the Illinois game.
