Thanks Jon, for steering this thread back to its original topic. I realize that MN is recruiting those three Iowa/Nebraska players (although Gesel is essentially an Iowa player just across the border) that you mention. Besides Iowa, the only other schools that I have heard Gesel actually mention are Creighton and Nebraska. My initial question still stands, in that, I don't recall many (if any?) Iowa players going to MN? Whereas, the Hawkeyes have certainly lost their share of in-state players (particularly to Kansas, i.e., Nick Collison & Kirk Heinrichs). This likely has to do with the fact that Iowa has 3 D1 programs vs. only one D1 program in MN. I'm sure MN has also been disappointed in losing in-state players (such as, Taylor Jordon & Jon Lueur to Wisconson). Regarding, Adam Woodbury, while I think he is an Iowa lean, I've heard that some of the big boys (Kansas) are interested, so I'm more concerned about losing him to a name school like Kansas, than to MN.
For "Go Gophs eh?" - I'll answer your 3 questions (1) I don't know why you are bringing up football in a basketball forum (I suspect because you had no good comeback to my earlier points), but yes congrats to the gophs in winning a 3-point contest vs. an uninspired Iowa team. I guess even a blind gopher finds a nut once in a while I'm somewhat surprised you want to discuss IA vs. MN football since prior to last year Iowa won 8 of the last 9 games against MN (including a 55 to zip drubbing). I'm confident Floyd will be back in Iowa City next year. (2) On 2/5/11, Iowa beat a ranked Michigan State team by 20 points. (3) If you can't see why a new practice facility would not be important to recruiting, I'm not sure what else I can say to you. Even Tubby complains that MN needs such a facility to keep up with the competition. I realize Iowa's new facility came too late to try to keep Marcus Paige in-state; however, in his particular case he has always wanted to go to North Carolina.
Lastly, GoldenHerbs - I'm sorry if you think I was harsh in my responses, but "Go Gophs eh?" comments were simply incorrect. For instance, Iowa was 25 - 9 in 2006, finishing 2nd in B10, which is a far cry from not being good for the past "30 years". I realize Iowa has been subpar in recent years, which is a key reason that Lickliter is gone. I would think a MN fan could relate as that is why a guy like Tim Brewster is no longer coaching your football team. I just looked it up and was somewhat surprised that since Tubby came to MN in 2007 his B10 record is below 500 (29 wins, 31 losses), so not exactly a juggernaut.
