Tubby to have announcement on Royce at 9am this morning

that star tribune blurb almost reads like royce has made a decision to transfer as opposed to being expelled from school (i.e. it said "Tubby Smith will address the media at 9 a.m., reportedly to say Royce White is leaving the team.")

did you see the fox 9 morning news segment that the star tribune referenced in their blurb? if so, are you able to clarify how fox 9 morning news reported it and whether they said he is "leaving" or if they used the term "expelled"? thanks
 

Unfortunately I didn't see the report and there isn't anything on Fox's site.

At least all of the rumors will be put to bed (I hope) one way or another in just under an hour.

The Strib says expelled. But whats the difference, whether he is expelled or they are saying he is "transfering" to let him save face, the kid is gone. Royce don't let the door hit you on the way out.
 

Not that this is at all surprising, but wow. Imagine someone telling you six months ago that Royce would never seen the floor in a Gopher uniform. The guy has bigger issues now than not playing basketball.
 


I'm very glad the Tubby didn't let him every see the floor. The program needs to move beyond this ASAP. There is plenty of talent on this team to be competitive and I am not worried about Tubby's ability to recruit some more high-end talent.

Sadly, in his current flight pattern he could be transferring to a state institution in St. Cloud soon. :(

To see a kid just toss his opportunity to go to the U and play with a coach like Tubby is just sad.
 

Thoughts and Questions:

The U had enough reasons to dismiss Royce from the team and school before the laptop incident. Though I wish he would eventually be able to play.

Royce was "thrown out of 1 or 2 dorms". Was one of them Territorial? Was he not allowed to live there or not allowed to even enter the dorm? IF he was not allowed to even enter the dorm; he once again violated a U rule or ruling.

If Royce would be allowed to play BB for the Gophers I have to wonder how much he would/would have helped the team. Considering his past actions of on court temper and sometimes 'disappearing' from the flow of the game. He also seems to have a lack of respect for authority.

Could Tubby be helping him transfer to a JC or D2 school with the understanding if he gets his act together he may come back the U at a latter date?

Just throwing out some thoughts-no facts.
 




I guess there wasn't a press conference and we will just have to sit and wonder. I really hope this means Royce is innocent in the laptop fiasco. I know he has made his mistakes but IF he cant get back on the right track just think how exciting this team will be! We are GOOD now and could be GREAT!

I don't think the goal is to be "competitive."

This was a potential top 10 team before mbakwe and white got booted. And as for those saying they're glad White is gone ... 5* recruits don't grow on trees.

Exactly, If He Can't get back on the right track it will be exciting! Right now he is averaging about an incident per week. Maybe he can kick it up a notch to 2 incidents per week or maybe 2 in one day. That would be awesome!!! Royce White is a waste of oxygen.

And if you are a Gopher basketball fan you know that rebuilding disgraced programs doesn't happen overnight.

We are talking about a nationally ranked recruit here, not a fan. Huge difference.......:rolleyes: Royce has problems that go beyond simple mistakes, and the U cannot allow for players like him to be reflected on their program they are building. Royce is about as good as gone but we still have a great team.
 

Royce White is not a kid, and shoplifting and shoving a security officer to the ground multiple times are not mistakes. It is unacceptable behavior and it has long been a pattern for Royce White
