Hmmm, maybe he was talking about his own coaching staff

Go Gophers!!

“@GophersNow: "The great players want more pressure. Good players want that challenge -- they seek it, they embrace it. Obviously, we don't," Tubby said.”

He was NOT talking about his own staff ( I get your joke BTW )

It couldn't have been because Tubby, Tubby NEVER, NEVER NEVER, takes ANY responsibility NEVER

He is without a doubt the only coach I have ever heard that won't at least say
"Some of this is my fault for not getting them ready"

I truly believe that in Tubby's mind it couldn't be him in any way at all. It just can't be.
Never have I seen a coach so stubborn. He will NOT change his game plan. He will change nothing
about himself and the way he directs the team, his sub patterns, his game plan when it's not working, etc.

He just blames the players for not doing it his way.

I guess that is his way of convincing himself how good of a coach he is.
If they lose it's there fault. If they win it's because of his great coaching.

How convenient

Come on now Tubby; that game was 100% on the kids because you "told them about the implications"?!

It would seem Trevor agrees.

I hate coming here after a loss. It probably isn't enough that it's punctuated by having to listen to our own fans but it's probably worse having to read an obsessive Kentucky fan like yourself still chasing Tubby around after five years.

F-ck off already!

Tubby' been our coach for almost 5 years. We don't need your guidance. Go back to Cat Pause.

Quit getting off at Tubby's demise and leave us alone. Or if you have to get off to it, do it somewhere else, maybe with other Kentucky fans?

Looks like nugget got the banhammer! Nice work Mods.

I'm in the camp where I wish the head coach would take some responsibility.

It sure doesn't happen often.

WHy would he get banned for that? All he did was tell the truth.

He got banned because the only reason he was here is because he wanted to brag about Tubby failing.

Sounds like a lead in to a Viagra commercial.

"TEFLON TUBBY" Blame it on GW Bush. Look in the mirror, Your the leader.

People brag about being right all the time. I don't know his history though, maybe he was warned.

He may have been warned, IDK, but he did say the only reason he was here is vindication.

G Austin Hollins played 22 scoreless minutes in Saturday's 64-53 loss at Northwestern, and coach Tubby Smith said he couldn't handle the moment in a game dubbed as must-win. "Austin was shaking like a tree out there, like he was scared to death," Smith said

Was this necessary for Tubby to say?

I consider myself to be a Tubby fan, but comments like that concern me because they can go one of two ways.

1. It can inspire our team to band together to prove Tubby wrong over our next few games - which I am sure is why Tubby said it.

2. It can turn the team off to the point where they tune him out and give up on the rest of the season.

I hope the first one happens. We are a long shot for the NCAA tourney now, but I would at least like to see us get back on the bubble for discussion. It can happen if we can string together three or four really good games in a row.

If the second happens, we may not make the postseason at all. I'm not sure I could take that.

I think that Trevor quoted it as well is helpful for us. Maybe he will push the message as well?

One of the few good things about young teams is they rarely ever give up. We had a bad night but they will soon forget about it and be ready for the next game. Whether they are right or wrong, half these guys still have the dream of playing in the NBA. Ralph, Rodney, Joe, Dre, and EE still believe they have a chance to never have a real job. They won't give up and I won't stop watching. The NIT looks very good to me right now.

Because he's not a Gopher fan? Because he's got 208 posts ripping Tubby & nothing else? Because he's rooting against the Gophers? Because he wants the team to fail so we fire Tubby so he can thump his chest and say "See I told you so!! Ha-ha"? Because no Kentucky fan-site would let me post hundreds of rips on their coach? Obviously our team's not very good. There's plenty of legitimate criticism of Tubby by Minnesota fans, I don't need big blue reveling in it on GopherHole all season. My .02

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't thought right? When he stands emotionless on the sideline watching to see who steps up & takes the bull by the horns, he's criticized for mailing it in, he's got no fire, he doesn't recruit, etc. On the other hand he's a monster because gives a terrible scowl when guys mess up or calls guys out when they don't perform.

I've said all season the kid's got some Ralph Sampson in him. Super-nice kid, but lacking fire. Apparently Tubby wants to light that fire under his ass & possibly toughen him up some? I've seen Tubby do this with Ralph as well. In both cases I question the tactic. On the other hand sometimes people need to be challenged to maximize their potential. That's part of why the decided to come to the U & play for Tubby.

If Austin keeps playing like he is, I'd say moving him to the bench and either Coleman or Dre to the starting lineup is in order.

Tubby didn't rise to the challenge either. Every time Eliason was in the game we got close, then he sits him down and puts RSIII back in and we fall way behind. Is he watching a different game? What's the deal?

Perhaps.

However, we saw how it went down last year after he went negative on all of guys.

And we saw what happened to IL at Nebraska when Weber went negative on his guys as well.

When a coach completely throws in the towel and deflects 100% of the blame, I never think that goes well for anyone. Even when Izzo calls his team out, he usually talks about how HE needs to get better with preparation as well. Same thing with Williams, Self, Coach K, etc.

Hopefully, we have a different result, but I wouldn't count on it. I just don't think it's necessary for a big-time coach to do; it looks petty, childish, and like he's trying to shift the blame completely on someone else.

Maybe it's just me, but with the way we continually struggled with their defense last night and our lack of understanding of how to attack their zone on offense, I would say we were completely unprepared from a coaching perspective as well.

But of course that couldn't be Tubby's fault?

Seems like a pattern - when things dont go well for the team, blame others first. Exclude self from blame.

Doesnt work in any organization, and most likely not with kids.

This approach is a problem, and most dont want to talk about it or admit the damage this approach can do. Especially to a group that needs all the positives it can get.
