Everyone knows that Urban meyer is a great coach and great person, basically not a scum bag like John C. Now look at the way he handled the Dunlap situation. He didn't push him away from the team he brought him in closer and now he is back on the team. The way the Royce situation was handled was terrible and now our team is suffering. Pushing him away from the team made the situation 10 times worse then it had to be. DUI is 100% worse then shoplifting a pair of jeans.

Urban must realize that 18-22 year old kids make mistakes becasue every time someone gets arrested on his team he handles the situation in the correct way. Also not one of the arrests has affected the reputation of the program like everyone thinks Royces shoplifting charge did.

And Dunlap learns from this.... that as long as you are a big-time athlete actions don't have consequences??

I'll take Tubby's approach any day of the week.

Although I do understand the point of the original post, my feeling all along is that Tubby knows the situation here better than anyone and he did/is doing what he needed to do. I don' think you can say that Tubby would always handle a situation in the same way as he's handled Royce. I've got to believe he's savvy enough to adjust when the situation calls for it. What works for Urban Meyer with his player might not always be the best move.

So you basically post the same thing on both boards trying to get a reaction?

He's a complete idiot. All he does is flame. The mods allready warned him once this week...just ignore him, let him get even more pissed off and then go out in a blaze of glory to get banned....trust me, it should be good entertainment.

Amen. It's completely ridiculous how Tubby has handled this situation. If you're a parent and your kid were caught stealing and had other problems with the law, would you kick him out of your house. This is exactly what Tubby did.

I just realized it was more of a basketball topic then football.

Do you really think that the whole Dunlap scenario isn't a little embarrassing? I find it disturbing, personally. In fact, I don't think this a very good comparison since I don't believe anything Royce has done comes close to what Dunlap did, but I suppose you kinda mention that.

Frankly, though, I still think Royce needs some time off to get his stuff straightened out. Plus, I don't think this is something Tubby is fully in control of.

I think it's being handled way too slowly and poorly by UMPD, but I think Tubby is handling everything very well.

Just my opinion.

Agreed. How many times does it have to be said though that his suspension stems from much more than the laptop or shoplifting indicent? Those are the things that were made public. It's all of his other off the court transgressions that were not.

It is of course embarrassing, but that goes away in a few days. People on this board think stuff like that affects the reputation of the entire school, which it does not. If that were true the U of F would be considered a terrible school because of all the athletes getting arrested, instead it is a top public universality and even ranked higher then the U of M. Look at the kid on Texas who got the DUI in November, I bet 90% of people heard that story and forgot it the next day. But now that he went through the court system he is back on Texas and the reputation of the School was not changed at all.

I bet Leonard Little was treated the same way as Dunlap in college for drunk driving, and look how that turned out.

BrewRecruit, I have a suggestion that might work for you. Why don't you become a fan of those schools (Florida, Texas, etc.)? That will solve all your frustrations. You'll never have to worry about how disciplinary issues are handled.

Not sure if u are a fair weather fan or not, but i do know when it comes to gopher sports you say screw morals and ethics and that you want to win at any cost. You remind me of those crazy out of control parents and their son/daughters little league or hockey games. To say that bad press does not affect the university in a bad fasion is a joke. Just look at what fat pat and souhan right about us at times. Remember when cory joesphs mom called tubby to ask what the hell is going on up here? How about ESPN during the gopher basketball games showing the timelines of our players suspensions and so on..... love the passion but you just need to let things go and stop trolling around and insulting everyone who does not agree with you.

I have a question. If this were a bench player, say, Travis Busch, would you be having the same reaction Brew or are you all in a tizzy because it's a highly rated recruit?

Oh, and SS has been around much longer than you so I would go out on a limb saying he's a Gopher fan.

This is where I come out as well. It's amazing to me that in this era where we see the consequences of athletes being given a free pass because of their "mistakes" that we still have folks who only care about getting that all-important "W". A few posters on here have even admitted it and many others have implied it. Tubby and/or Maturi handled this situation completely appropriately. And frankly, I don't care how Texas, Florida or any other of the southern schools handle their discipline problems. I for one certainly want to win. But I'm not willing to let things go in order to take a short-cut to get it done either.

Actually, its only because it's Royce White. I haven't seen near the level concern about Mbakwe, perhaps because Brew is just another buddy of White.

Brew, I again say, that if all Royce White had done wrong in his life was get a DUI, he'd be playing by now. (No I'm not making light of DUI's).

Tubby handled the situation in the best way possible in regards to White. This wasn't a kid who got caught with a beer at a party or maybe smoked some dope. He was involved with what could have been a felony and is at least a "person of interest" in another crime. I think the ball was dropped in regards to Mbwake but blaming Tubby for Royce's stupid decisions and poor choices is foolish.

And don't get me started on Urban Meyer. I think he's had something like 25 arrests in the last two years around his program from the mundane to the serious. He's not a bastion of virtue and the only thing I care to agree with Kiffin (whom I loathe) is his calling attention to some of that.

The Dunlap thing reminds me of Lawrence Phillips at Nebraska. Any else remember? Phillips did something very serious (abused girlfriend?) and after sitting a few games, was allowed to play in the national title game against Florida. I lost a ton of respect for Tom Osborne at that time.

Yes, I remember. I actually did my AP English paper in High school on Osborne's discipline vs. Bobby Knight's. There were a lot more instances than Phillips, too.

You are dead on, and it just so happened that was a pattern (as is usually is). He was just sentenced to 31 years in jail a few days ago for attacking his girlfriend and running into 3 teens with his car:

Mbakwe is CHARGED WITH a felony in Florida. Of course, he should be suspended until it is resolved. Even Bob Huggins at UC suspended players when they were charged with a felony. And he booted them when/if found guilty.
