that is what gi posted. that is what zach says is going to happen. will gopher fans be happy with this hire? is he the tubby smith of cfb?

adding edit to this as people got mad that i didn't stress that this is gi's prediction, not a hard news report.

will people be happy or sad if this happens?

Lane Kiffin to get the Gopher job on ... oh wait.

Chuck Amato will get the Gopher job on November 29.

If they throw enough crap at the wall, eventually one of them will stick and they can point to that as a reason to pay their subscription fees.

I would love this hire, BTW.

I did see Doogie's post which makes me think Calhoun is the guy.

I would be happy with Calhoun. I, for one, don't think people should get hung up on the Tubby comment from Maturi. Calhoun is a good coach and a stand-up guy. That should be the priority.

My sources and beer drinking buddies are reporting that Pete Carroll will be named head Gopher coach at half time of the Iowa game, only because he has MN ties.

Losing to Brewster makes me wonder if Calhoun is the right guy.

Mark Richt lost to Colorado and something tells me the Buffs would take him in a heartbeat if they could. You don't make a hire off the outcome of 1 game.

So the validity of this thread is based on the OP and something that is not visible on GI? am i missing something?

In other news I heard that Sumlin is hiring Mason as his offensive coordinator and Brewster as his TE coach.

doogie tweeted that zack at gi predicted this will happen. dont kill the messenger, sheesh. it would be a major let down so don't blame me or doogie.

I don't believe I was killing any messenger. The OP does not say anything about this being based on a tweet nor anything about Doogie.

Frankly, I'd be disappointed - a third year coach. hardly a "Tubby hire." It's a leap in the dark, a risk. The service academies have a very different recruiting situation, not nearly as demanding. Calhoun does look a bit better on defense than Sumlin, but this is far from a killshot. Not saying he wouldn't turn out okay in time, but he'd be far down my list, along with most of the 2-4 year rookies. I'd go for Tommy Bowden in a heartbeat, or Leach, or Fulmer. Harbaugh would be my dream choice, Patterson second, Richt third.

The wind blew, the $hit flew, and we'll hear lots of rumors for a month or two.

It was just his personal prediction. here is exactly what he tweeted.
@ZachJohnsonGI said:
I predicted Troy Calhoun would be announced as the new Gopher coach on December 1st and I am still sticking with it.

If he does turn out to be the guy, we'd probably know before December 1st. The AFA's last game is on Thursday 11/17. I wonder if Colorado fired Hawkins now in order to beat us to Calhoun?

The OP should mention next time that it was a prediction.

Your worse than Sid. I see no such prediction, can you provide a link?

In answer to the question, No, this does not excite me at all. It will also do nothing for the 'average' sports fan out there. I hope this 'prediction' is wrong.

Great....

another former Broncos assistant. I also could do without the triple option. Not a big fan, I would be very disappointed if this were true.
