Trill Carter gives PJ Credit

I had a teacher in high school who I couldn't stand - thought all their rules were BS and they were just a tyrant. To this day as an adult I have so much appreciation for her. I was lucky enough to tell her that years after graduation. I grew up and realized I was a shithead at the time, the teacher wasn't the issue.

Really cool to hear this from Trill.

Man that’s a cool quote. You can feel however you want about PJ as a coach and the ceiling on the program, but as a builder of young men, I don’t think anyone can deny he’s extremely gifted and committed.

I can only roll my eyes when I hear people trash PJ and his personality. Specifically when they claim that he's fake or his slogans are nothing but self-promotion. He's now in his eighth season....and there's been little to suggest any of that is the case. All signs point to the fact that he's invested in his players OFF the field as well as on the field. And when you hear stuff like this from guys like Trill or Bucky.....who left the program....but still have nothing but good things to say about PJ? It's very telling.

I have defended his personality more than a few times because I always believed he truly cares about these young men and wants them to be successful in life.

All stuff Coyle values as well. Much of why coach Fleck was high on his list.

Whoa whoa whoa. But what about what Jason Stahl the representative of the players has to say? Now that’s the real stuff

As I contended when he left, Trill kinda sucks. Nice stats the last two years we were better without him.

What did Bucky say?

I'm not sure what he all said, but he just came back and visited practice when he had a bye a few weeks ago.

When running back Mar’Keise “Bucky” Irving transferred from Minnesota to Oregon in spring 2022, Fleck said last week that Minnesota had “no money” at that time.

“And he got offered a lot of money” to go to Oregon, Fleck said. “If you know where Bucky comes from and you know his background (with a difficult childhood in Illinois), there’s no way he could have said no to that.”

The Gophers now have growing NIL funds to better compensate players, but Fleck brought up Irving because of the way things have come full circle with the current Tampa Bay Buccaneers player. During his NFL bye week this month, Irving returned to Dinkytown. Over a couple of days, he was at Gophers practice and hung out with players and staff. He fit that trip in while Oregon is the No. 1-ranked team in the country.

Fleck used that anecdote to show how he wants his program to be “transformative” for players — not just “transactional” with NIL and revenue-sharing dollars.

Fleck said when Irving graduated from Oregon, he called Fleck and his wife Heather as he walked across the stage. Irving also remains close with the U’s all-time leading rusher Mo Ibrahim.

Wait ... wasn't Bucky pissed when PJ changed his name because of the Badgers and that was so disrespectful that he decided to transfer to Oregon. It wasn't about cash; it was about PJ being a phony and not really caring about his players. I sure as hell wish he could unlock the mystery of beating Iowa, but sure as hell am glad PJ is the Gopher coach and that the out and out haters have retreated.

I absolutely love this quote from Trill, pay attention parents.

Someone asked Trill why he went to Auburn. His response was that sometimes you get emotional and make bad decisions. Seems really genuine in his sharing with others.

As for Fleck he is someone we are really lucky to have. He pours it all into the program and is hitting the new age head on. As someone how has met him, met his players as part of 5 years at the Masonic Children’s hospital, he is the real deal. I’m also a season ticket holder. I see it from multiple angles and it’s real.

I was able to take part in multiple events with my surviving daughter and it’s awesome and real. All of it. To drive through the practice facility three nights before the WI game and see the joy in the players faces giving out meals and Heather and PJ coming to my window with hot chocolate, giving their best for my daughter. It’s all real.

Sorry to hear you had to go through some rough stuff with your kids. Nothing worse than that. Glad to hear Gopher football brought some joy to your family.
