Trevor Mbakwe Sets Record Straight

How do you know he was telling Marquette he would stay? There were numerous stories in that time frame that indicated he was leaving, and I didn't see any that suggested he told Marquette he was staying.

At the end of the day, though, Gopher fans probably don't care now that he's here.

Look up the quotes from the Marquette coach after Mbakwe bolted. If you believe they knew he was gone before that you are a fool. There is a difference between considering leaving and telling those that matter you are leaving. Mbakwe has been a flake and not a credible source for years. This dates back to his history in high school through today. People on this board are in complete denial. No matter what happens the last person I would trust is Trevor Mbakwe based on his past history.

Mbakwe Dust Up

Mbakwe has an uneven past. Some here are skeptical of him based on past incidents, while others are defenders because he is a MN recruit and he brings certain skills. I think we just have to wait, see and hope for the very best. We just don't know what will happen with any recruit until he starts playing for Tubby and with his teammates. The chemistry of a team plays out in unpredictable ways....especially when it is a young team.

I remember seeing the Buzz Williams quotes and thinking, clearly this guy either had been fooling himself, or was just trying to cover his a$$ when the first significant occurrence of his tenure was losing one of their best returning players.

I suspect that the Marquette coaches knew he wanted to leave, put a lot of continued pressure on him to stay, and so he maybe didn't want to deal with the unpleasantry of making it "official" until he had to, until the details were worked out w/r/t JC. That would make perfect sense.

Apparently Facts34 was right. Of course the great thing about message boards is those that were bashing him and calling for him to be banned will never admit that they were wrong.

I do agree with many of those that thought he should have kept the info to himself until he had more definitive information rather than saying there was something possibly out there that may go away.

The one thing that I find very interesting about this is that it was a shock to Trevor that there were rumors about him not possibly playing this year for the Gophers even though he knew back at the end of April that this could become an issue. Hopefully that means he knows he is innocent and thought it would go away.

Agreed. I also had the same information that Facts did, with a bit more detail, but refrained from just putting that sensitive info out there.

No point in stirring anything up IMO.

I had more detailed information that I chose not to share - on the slim chance that the charges somehow went away. I purposely never mentioned the nature of the issue since this is not the type of allegation with which anybody wants to be associated, especially if no formal charges are filed.

For Trevor's sake, I hope he is innocent and is cleared entirely (as much as he could be given the fact that he's already charged and therefore attached to it, even if he is innocent and cleared).

I Have NO IDEA What May Have Happened

But the description was of a 6-6, 190 pound man. Miami-Dade had such a player (roughly 6-7 and 190) who will be playing Div I basketball elsewhere next season.

Mbakwe is 6-7 or 6-8 but a solid 240 pounds. Mistaken identity is a definite possibility.

So why exactly did you bring anything up? Just curious.

I"m glad he brought it up. It turned out to be true so he must have had pretty solid info. Why else are you on this board if you don't want some insight into what is going on in the program. Most of the time it is positive. Sometimes it's not. I'd rather have both sides.

Thanks Facts.

Not to mention the reports said it occurred at 3am (most likely it was quite dark) on the way home from a party, possibly (not necessarily) alcohol was involved.

Because the purpose of this board is to talk Gopher hoops.

Really? I had no idea. All you did by breaking that news was piss off a lot of people and make Trevor look bad. As of now, it looks like there's a good chance he did nothing and that the whole situation will not affect his bball status this winter. All you did by saying that you knew something bad was surrounding him before the news officially broke was make yourself look like a jackass who just wanted to look cool for having the inside scoop. I never doubted that you had correct info, but I don't think that's cool to break a story like that and then keep the details a secret when you knew all you'd be doing was stirring up trouble and making people anxious for the details. It's like when someone goes, "did you hear the terrible news about _____...oh wait, I probably shouldn't say..."

Seriously, people, Facts34 put out some information that he had heard. If we're going to stop all speculation on these message boards, then close them down, because we'll only have a couple of posts a day! Sheesh. As it turns out, Facts34 WAS correct, and did nothing wrong. Get over it.

The problem isn't "providing information" - the problem is tossing out vague and unresolved rumors that add exactly nothing to the conversation here.

Facts34 may have heard of the charges, but to come out and say hey folks, there is this rumor, it's bad, Trevor won't be a gopher, but I can't tell you why is pointless. Yes, it prompts speculation, but nobody on this board can provide any useful information until the hearing is over and/or it gets resolved. It is pointless and unproductive to throw out that kind of crap and work everyone up.

I have no problem with "facts" info. and how it was posted. Just hope that it isn't true and the charges are dropped.
