Transfer Portal 2026

One reason I mentioned Crump is man is Texas loaded ! A star at home in front of family or off to another state and new adventure. Did Coach P have time to recruit her? I could see her as next Mara ! I wonder where NIL plays into all this? Fun to still chat about this as there are only 15 other teams fans that can !! Go Gophers

Ummm what? Mara has been fantastic in the last couple of months. She's definitely proven she's back from her injury now. When she had the most pressure on her in her NCAA tournament debut, she went 7-10 from three across two games.
I think he was referring to ball handling under pressure, not shooting. I agree Tori and Braun are only average against pressure. GG is a stronger ball handler.

Texas is loaded, yet Crump, as a freshman, was part of their rotation and even started five games. She averaged 8.5 points per game. So while it would be great if she transferred back to the U, I doubt if she'd consider it, plus, could we afford her?

Merkle would fit nicely or the Purdue girl. I don’t think they need an all American. Just another Sophie!!
I think Lana McCarthy would be a possible candidate. Wasn't she recruited by Coach P?

Seems more realistic to simply be thankful that all the attention Crump got meant her teammate Tori McKinney flew under the radar enough for the Gophers to get her.

Jada Williams out of Iowa State entering. Another player I’d love to be a Gopher and slide into Battles spot.

Kiyomi McMiller is entering the portal. I think she's not the right fit for Coach P's system, but I am calling Maryland or LSU for her.

Wasn't Merkle in the portal last year, Maryland was throwing a rumored high dollar figure at her, then at the last minute she returned to Penn State. It was a weird situation.

She was signed by Klutch Sports-the agency LeBron set up. Sfe was their first HS and also female client.

I’d imagine she /her team have ambitions beyond billboards in Mpls. Austin isn’t a major market like NYC/LA, but UT recognition wise is on a different level than the U.

For awhile UT toyed with the idea of setting up their own network, like YES or MSG.

I never said she didn’t, did I (?), but Coach P is now the coach, retained the players (they could have left), has a commitment to D and has us in the Sweet 16.

Obviously, more than one thing can be true🤦‍♂️
Don’t be so touchy. I really like Coach P. I just wanted to say Lindsay should get some flowers for bringing in such quality recruits. They were willing to stay before they really knew how good Coach P would be.

And we aren’t even sure Dawn would have recruited any, or all of them, in the first place. I, for one, am glad Lindsay did.

Project much? Two posts 🤣 and you excuse me of being touchy🙄.

Not sure why you just didn’t add your own post instead if having to specifically direct it to me🤔

I’ll just ignore you moving forward, as your energy is not what I espouse to entertain on here 😃

They had their own network for over a decade: Longhorn Network. The only reason it no longer exists is because they joined the SEC

Check me on my math. The Gophers have 14 players on their roster, 5 are seniors who are leaving. So that's nine left plus the four incoming freshman recruits which makes 13. That leaves two spots that could be filled if it is still a limit of 15 scholarship players per team?

Also, I know we should leave it up to coach P to figure out as someone noted but its fun to speculate. And no one is forcing anyone to read this thread.

What does “project much” really mean in this context? 🤔You said Coach P recruited to a certain culture. Many of her players who play weren’t recruited by her, nor may even have ever have been recruited by her. I simply pointed out that Whalen should get some credit for signing players who have been vital to creating that culture.🤝 You were the one who got instantly testy. 🫨🤣 Not sure why. But keep on “espousing.” 😊

Shows you how much money is in the SEC that they bailed on having their own network for SEC money
That was the point I was trying to illustrate, they have lots of money and aren’t shy about spending it either.

They would all be gone now if Whalen wasn't fired. She sold them a dream, and then they saw her attempt to coach. It took a head coach from Wisconsin to make this program a winner. Not to mention our best player from Wisconsin that followed her here. Thank you. Not going to be a problem recruiting outside the Twin Cities any more. Those kids from the MN AAUs will have to go to St. Thomas.

Jordan Ode has announced she is moving on from MSU. I don’t know if she would help the Gophers. Maybe she can come dominate at St. Thomas

What's going on at Iowa State? I believe that the transfer count is up to 9 and it might be headed to 12. That must have been a toxic environment or terrible chemistry. I think I've read that Fennelly has a lifetime contract, but will he survive this?

Mass defections like those at Iowa State can really cripple a program and its coach. I remember well after the Gophers' Final Four run, and after McCarville was done, Borton lost 5 players (Brobeck, Lacey, Williams, Davis, Podominik) and that was essentially the end of all the recruiting momentum the Gophers got from the Final Four appearance. And Borton never recovered.

Agreed. However there was no portal! We couldn’t just get transfers, they had to sit out a year when they got here. Some coaches build new teams every year. However I do think something is definitely up in Ames.

Very true! Also, beginning with the 06-07 season, attendance started to drop.. from 8300 to 6900.
