The shortened transfer portal this season is from April 6th-20th this year.

It’s on my mind early today because Florida just fired their head coach, Kelly Rae Finley, a Minneapolis native. A number of us have wished Liv McGill would transfer out of Florida to the Gophers with Battle’s spot opening up with her eligibility completed once this season wraps up. McGill has stated a number of times her bond with Finley, and it seems a higher probability she may transfer with this news.

I could also see Finley taking over at St. Thomas with Coach Sinn’s retirement. Finley was an excellent recruiter with a few McDonalds All-Americans on the roster. She just hasn’t been able to lead them to the NCAA Tournament.

Also on my wish list to the portal with Coach Sinn’s retirement would be a transfer from 6’3” MN native Alyssa Sand over from St. Thomas to the Gophers. She was St. Thomas’s leading scorer and rebounder this season as a sophomore. There would be plenty of minutes for her as well with the graduations of Hart, Tonga, and the eldest Bershers.
 

I agree, would love to see McGill play for the Gophers, her speed and passing in this Gophers offense would be next level. There will be a ton of competition for Liv McGill if she transfers from Florida especially with NIL. I could see UCLA, South Carolina, LSU, Texas, Ole Miss all in play for a player of McGill skill and talent level. They have all seen her play in the SEC so I'm sure the coaches in that league are all aware of what a talented player she, Liv is. Most of those premier programs will have openings for PG and Guard spots too. Not sure how we fundraise for the NIL but would be nice to get a player of McGill's skill and talent, she is a great player.
 

I never thought of Finley to St. Thomas. I would love to see Sand be a Gopher. That would be a massive blow to St. Thomas. I do want to see them succeed as well. I would be on board with McGill coming home. I was impressed with her in the WBIT last year.

The 6-1 junior averaged 14.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg and 1.4 spg, while shooting 42% from deep.

So much for having to wait until April 6th. They did fire their coach so...

You can also have your agent leak to the media that you *plan* to enter the portal at any time, even if you can't enter it officially until later.
 

Really curious with this year’s success if we land some impact players (while being able to keep our big 3 of GG, Tori, and Braun). The BIG is only getting better.

Anyone can donate to Dinkytown Athletes, the U of M's NIL collective. However, we don't have a big buck person like some schools do to drop a big sum into the pot.
 



Every day when I go on twitter I see the "player intends to enter the portal" tweet. Happy the Gophers are still playing and we don't have to worry about this yet. I just HOPE we can keep our big 3 (GG, Tori, and Braun) and that they will want to stay and build on this success. Team could be special again next year.

If you want to do your part, join DTA. Every person makes a difference. We can't all have Mark Cuban as an alum.

Those three plus an athletic big and a PG could make them Big 10 title contenders.

The Big Ten has yet to have a non-LA school contend since the PAC-12 4 joined the league. Would be something if the Gophers were the first traditional Big 10 team to do so. Suspect USC with JuJu’s return will be the overwhelming favorite.

Michigan will be very tough next year. The Gophers could be if they get a big time transfer. McKinney could make the WNBA. Add another WNBA caliber player, and they'll cook.

Agree on both counts. But taking the title out of LA will be really hard.

Crooks has a huge NIL deal with Hyvee. I doubt she leaves Iowa State.
 



If nobody leaves how many open scholarships do the Gophers have?

Maybe its just me, but I think Crooks is an average player at best. Sure, absolutely dominant in the paint on offense, but also one of the biggest defensive liabilities I've ever seen. She was the best player on a 9 seed that just got their doors blown off by an average Syracuse team. As a role player sure that works, as someone who is your "star" its a pass for me.

I think I remember reading that she built a close relationship with Whalen during the recruiting process, and that Whalen really felt highly of Crooks as both a player and person. I’d love to have her if she entered, but I've seen a number of interviews where she seems really invested in where she is. But if she wants a change I could see her liking our team and system.
 



With the Gophers success this season and the huge and energetic crowds at the Barn this weekend, it's going to be difficult for portal recruits and high school recruits not to give the Gophers a serious look. Plus the vibe and culture of this current group is enviable. Gritty, unselfish, close, fun-loving, good students and good citizens. And a coaching staff that knows what it's doing and has already established an identity for the program in 3 years here.
