Gopher FB coach Tracy Claeys appeared on the WCCO "Sports Huddle" program Sunday.

Mona: Fishing tournament?
TC: June 2nd & 3rd - Paynesville- Fishing Tournament. Info on Website. The FB staff will be there. Reaching out to a new group.

Sid: what can you do now for recruiting?
TC: evaluation period. can't have direct contact. They can call us. coaches on road 90% of time down south. evaluate on practice field. June big time with camps. 10 more days on road in June.

Sid: reaction on recruiting.
TC: very good. good reaction to new facilities. enough kids out there - we'll get our share.

Sid: good crop 2017 in MN?
TC: 2016 was a better year. We kept most of those kids at home. this year maybe 6 D1 players in state, not as strong as a year ago. we'll be very thorough. Where are they going to be in 2 years - can we develop?

Sid: how many kids can you bring in.
TC: around 15 or 16. Always kids who leave or transfer. that could open up a couple - look at class of 18. Like to have around 20 a year.

Mona: did you meet Coyle?
TC: I was out of town, fundraising for camps. I'm very pleased. needed to get done. visited with Mark on phone. excited.

Sid: holes you have to fill?
TC: secondary - defensive line - linebackers - try to sign 3 kids at most positions (not RB or QB) - getting # averaged out. try to recruit a full FB team.

Sid: night games?
TC: like night games early in the season. Thurs night game - gives kids a break before next game. night games draw well. lot of excitement to begin year. Fans have been great.

Murray's certificate awarded.

I'm surprised his concern here is LB but no mention of OL.

Thanks, son. Good to have your report. Always a professional job.

At least he's honest. Just not a good crop on MN players to choose from this year.

Thanks SON! I still think that recruiting is now way out of hand. I work with a woman whose son is a backup for Las Vegas powerhouse Bishop Gorman. He has 6 offers, signing class of 2018, has never started a game, but has been to camps and been evaluated. Still think it is crazy. Several Big10 coaches have been out to look at prospects during Gorman's brief spring camp. Still waiting for her to tell me that Gopher coaches have been out. Anyway, Go Gophers!

We will never be able to recruit Bishop Gorman. Even with a committed kid, Gopher coaches would land on the front page of the StarTribune for expensing a trip to Vegas.

Thanks for report. Take care of yourself.

Sadly, that probably would actually happen...

Maybe the landscape changes with the new A.D.?

Very funny. Well done.

Heck, the Strib would report that the coaches went to the lunch buffet at The Golden Nugget when they could have gone for $2 cheaper at another place not downtown or on the strip.

Hahaha. So true!!

Thanks SON. I read about your most unfortunate personal situation. I'd say you're in line for a going above and beyond GH award! Just make sure you do it for leisurely enjoyment. Personally, I could not imagine too many things more stressful than listening to and trying to translate the sayings of Sid ;-)

Wasn't Claeys just out there? There was a Gopherhole Tweet of him at Enfuego Cigar Shop in Vegas. Guessing he stopped by at Gorman. That place and program is incredible.

Any scholarships available for the fall? Any chance they'll add a late pick-up?
