Top 20 Players in the Big 10

Top 20 players

All the Illinois players are too high. Tisdale shouldnt be on the list. I would take Iverson or Sampson over him any day. Besides a decent jump shot what does he do? He doesnt rebound, cant box out, and even rarely blocks a shot? McCamey should be 10-15. I think the gophers have a lot of players just outside that list: Nolen, Trevor, Sampson, Iverson, Devoe. All somewhere under the top 35 players. Not sure I'd put the Hoff on it in the top 20, but I'm glad we got a represenative.

Halvorsen is MN All-Stater and will see PT next year. Stark took his GRHS team to a near state title. Both are certainly part of the 2010 class. Halvorsen is a Div I player, little doubt about it.

Anyone who decides a player's merit by his ESPN score has no business evaluating recruits.

Rene Pulley STATED that Eliason has considerable upside. I'll take his word and ignore yours.

And what did Scout and Rivals say about Chip Armelin? Nothing...

Sullinger will be a TOP 10 draft pick. So he should definately be in the top 5

3rd in assists, 1st in steals, 2nd in ATO ratio among Big 10 PG last year.

But he can't score...Nolan averaged 6.7 points per game. To be considered a top point guard he needs to improve in this area.

Taking a look at some of the competition:

McCamey: 15.1
Lucas: 14.8
Hughes: 15.3
Battle: 18.5
Moore (if considered a PG): 16.4

oh but he can score, especially this year with his improved shot and just overall more mature game, just that he is a pass first point gaurd unlike those other guys who are relied upon to be the leading scorers on their team, Al does his job by getting steals rebounds assists and scoring only if he needs to. look at guys like jason kidd, can he score? sure, does he need to to be considered one of the best pgs, no.

I think there a quite a few Gopher players with the potential to be top 25 or so players. TM, Hoff, RSIII and Devoe at the top. Iverson, Nolen and Rodney with strong potential as top 40-50. I sure hope Iverson plays like he did at the end of the season. The biggest problem is minutes. Tubby loves substituting players so they don't necessarily put up gaudy numbers like some other teams. They still seem to lack that "go to" guy. I hope Devoe fills that role.

I can't believe there is a debate on here that Al Nolen is a top 20 Big Ten player. Give me a break. On our own team, I'd take Joseph, Hoff, Iverson, Sampson, and probably Mbakwe first. If things go well, Rodney Williams could end up better this year as well.

And he can score? He just chooses not to. Wow. Al has A LOT to prove this year. The first thing he has to prove is that he should even be the starting point guard for this team. Then we'll go from there.

Hoopmasters said:

Armelin has the ball skills to play either guard spot, but is best suited heading to Minnesota this fall to be a scoring guard. he has range to arc and is good shooter off the dribble too! he finishes in traffic and is a solid open court passer. Look for him to add depth this fall fro the Gophers.

Moore is NOT a PG - he's strictly SG.

PG are not supposed to score. They set up offense, make good passes (assists & high ATO ratio), and spearhead the defense (steals).

Al

J. Kidd has average between 15-18pts a game as a pro so he has scored. J. Kidd averaged almost 17 pts a game his soph/last year in college...

Al Nolan has to step his game up. Since the Louisville game Al's Sophmore year he has been very inconsistent- thats just a fact. If 'Friend of Tubby' is really a Friend of Tubby's he knows Al's game has frustrated the heck out of Tubby..

A D-1 point guard needs to score. A D-1 point guard needs when he gets the chance to make layups and finish at the hole. Al has struggled doing this.

I guess by some of these standards Doug Gotleib then would be the greatest point guard ever..

FOT is a board name. Nothing more, nothing less.

I never said he's a PERFECT PG, just that he has good PG skills.

you did say he was NOT a pg and STRICTLY a SG, well that proves your logic wrong, he can play point, recruited as a poing, and prolly the only reason he doesnt is because they lack a solid SG after him, and lewis jackson is 5'8

Moore is not a PG, but can do it if called upon. There have been occassions where he brough tball up and ran the offense but it's not his forte. High school is a different animal. He was a man amongst boys and was the classic "do it all" guard that took down Eric Gordon in the state championship game.

Jackson is PG. Terone Johnson is PG. Kelsey Barlow played PG last season.

Ryne Smith, John Hart, Anthony Johnson, and DJ Byrd all play SG behind Moore.
