Top 2 qualities you would want in a head coach?

Integrity and Inspiration

Get assistants who are great at the X's and O's.

I suppose that is three, but the first two are what builds and sells a program to students and families. Having coaches around you that can spot the fine-toothed details and present them to you as the head coach is extremely important. These guys need to be willing to be brutally honest about what needs to be done. The head coach needs to inspire his players and fans to reach their highest potential. Combine that and you've got a very successful program.

So Tim Brewster?

1. His first name is not Orlando.
2. His nickname is not Tubby.

Seems like a lot of people are more concerned about optics than winning. Sorta strange.

Obviously if winning is a "quality" it would be no.1 on everyone's list. I was more interested in seeing what qualities individual posters most wanted to see in a coach...with the idea that those qualities would lead to success.

Fair. In terms of true qualities, I want him to be a guy who (1) is smart enough to recruit personnel that fit his coaching style and (2) is flexible enough to adapt his style if he ends up with players who don't fit his system ("you go to war with the army you've got").

In terms of resume, I'd like someone who has experience as an assistant at a successful major conference team and has been a winner at a smaller school

The slicked-back hair guy would be the top assistant, not the head coach. The head coach just needs to do what FTB mentioned (win in regular season & postseason)!

To recap: Hire Knight as head coach and Lavin as asst. Knight in a maroon sweater and Lavin in an Armani suit.

1. Has the ability to grow the Minnesota Gophers into America's Team.

2. Scratch that, then there would be too much Dick Vitale.
