I know it sounds ridiculous, but you and I know its true.
What...from his long and storied history of recruiting, coaching college, and building an NCAA program?
There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling now.
This is the only way to resurrect the program in the long run.
C'monman, I have only one thing to say to you...
C'monman!!!!
for someone who claimed to put me on "ignore", you sure do respond to a lot of my posts
I know it sounds out a "little" proposterous. However, think about the recruits Dungy could actually pull off. If you were a recruit and a man of his magnitude came to your door, how could you pass up the opportunity to learn and develop from such a high character person.
Uhm...could you show me that post?
f'offman
I just figured you'd leave by now, and I wouldn't have to think about you again.
You must be one of the last few stragglers that haven't gotten the memo - he's not interested, he's stated that, and it ain't gonna happen.
Would it be nice? Yeah, he'd no doubt be a great fit. Would he be a terrific college coach? Who knows, but it seems likely. Is coaching of any kind in his future? Seems pretty doubtful given his past statements.
Can we please let this sleeping dog lie? PLEASE?
we can hope cant we? hope is all we have around here.
Oh please - we have more that just hope. We have a talented roster of football players who can win some games now if they perform well and some breaks go our way. We have a veteran QB who is looking to have a bounceback season and is motivated to win. We have a head coach who is itching to get our team on the field to compete.
You can latch on to hope all you want, and wish for Tony Dungy to part the Mississippi and lead us to the Promised Land. Its not realistic or constructive.
Get behind the team we have now, and you can worry about the head coaching situation if Brewster is let go.
Dungy is never going to coach again, so the point is beyond moot. So far beyond moot it had left moot in the ditch and entered the "pukable suggestion" stage.
Granted, Dungy would bring a lot of hype to the program. But is more hype really what Gopher football needs?
If things don't work out with Tim Brewster (and any new coach needs to be given about 5 years minimum for anyone to be able to make that call in a fair manner) there are plenty of proven winners that would consider taking this job. And all of them could probably be every bit as good as Dungy, but actually want to be coaching. To name just a few:
Kevin Sumlin
Ken Niumatalolo
Mike Leach
Jim Leavitt
And I think it could even be possible for the U to have its pick among coaches in the lower-half of the Big XII within a couple years, if needed. The Big Ten, SEC, and Pac 12 are going to be where a lot of coaches will want to be in a couple years.
win some games...great, that sounds great. See that's the problem around here, everyone is complacent about just winning "some games". Whatever happened to actually going out and competing for national championships?
I think that most of us here feel that a Big Ten Championship and a Rose Bowl appearance are the major goals down the line, but we're tempered by realism too. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither is a successful college football program in the modern era. Does Brew have us on the right track? I'm not sure, but I'm willing to back him for at least another season, especially when he's got many of his own guys on the field.
If Dungy came in tomorrow, what's your timetable for him taking the team to a National Championship? Whoops - Did reality just start to set in?
I'd love to see him as the AD once the new president is in place.
The timetable under Dungy vs. brew would be waaaaaaaaaaaay shorter though.
