Tony Dungy believes Minnesota is the next Clemson in CFB

The question was who could be the next Clemson. Which means is there a team/coach who could contend for national championships on a yearly basis that was not there before.

Clemson went from not winning ACC to dominating it in a short span. "Being Wisconsin" first makes no sense - beating them does. I dont want to sit at the edge of greatness for 2 decades with never sniffing a chance of a national title. I want us to become contenders in 3 - 5 years.

Fleck has proven in 3 years he deserves to be part of that conversation. Getting us there is no even close to gaurenteed. Still, if i had to put money on which team gets a national title in next 10 years I would put MN over WI if coaching stays the same
He's had one bad, one average, and one very good season here.

And yet he still doesn't want to coach them?

Get to winning the West, they have been contenders for a few years now including a time or two under Kill. If they do that with some consistency then they could take the next step. Wisconsin level is fantastic, but something tells me that PJ is the guy who could take it to the next level. Looking forward to the ride!

I have always wondered if Oregon would be relevant at all without the Nike support?
It's a great question. According to this: https://www.dailyemerald.com/archiv...cle_208d769b-199c-533a-aa43-1c04415fd793.html Knight started the agreement with Oregon football in 1996.

And they definitely seemed to have more consistent success since then. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Oregon_Ducks_football_seasons Millions of factors of course, like the fall of USC as the dominate force in the PAC.

Those early 2010's years for Oregon, and their rivalry with Stanford, were definitely their peak.

Nike plays a huge role. Just since 2000 they have won 3 Rose Bowls and two Fiesta bowls. They have the best of the best for athletes, a really cool campus and a cool vibe for young people. Check out where athletes live, locker rooms etc..

Sid chimes in:

JOTTINGS

• Hall of Fame football coach Tony Dungy told Sirius XM Radio that he sees a lot of similarities between Gophers coach P.J. Fleck and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney: “I think that’s the great thing about college football right now,” the former Gophers quarterback said. “I visited with Dabo Swinney a lot. It was not a place where you say automatically, ‘Hey if I take this Clemson job, we’re going to be national championship contenders in three years.’ It wasn’t looked at that way. The fact that it can happen at Clemson, the fact that it can happen at Minnesota, that makes college football great.”

Go Gophers!!
