Wow, what a game, what a finish and what an atmosphere!! I am really proud of how hard we played all night, just fantastic defense, purposeful offense (most of the time!) and once again Westbrook took over! Bo Ryan is going to have nightmares of Westbrook all offseason!! He is frustrating at times, but he is the one guy on the team that loves to take big pressure shots and he's come up huge against our biggest rival twice!!

I hope the guys enjoy the heck out of this win for all of a few hours as a well-rested and hungry Michigan team is a just over 48 hours away.

GO GOPHERS!!

Westbrook took over. Johnson had another very solid effort. Colt and Sampson were great.

Not Bo's best

What a great game -- I'm exhausted! Westbrook scores last 10 points of the game -- huh? Whodathunkit.

I think Ryan is a very good coach, but Tubby kicked his butt tonight. To get outscored 10-0 to finish the game is brutal. The last two significant possessions were brutal. Lining up 4 guys on the baseline and have them stand there while the point guard eventually lobs up a contested 3 -- what the he!! is that?! And then the two hurried shots they threw up on the next possession were also brutal. Also, how do they let the ball get to Westbrook?? I really thought Ryan was better than that.

The barn was 1997 loud tonight. Great, great atmosphere--the crowd rose above the Jacks Cafe shell game, the basketball giveaway the S&S noise meter--what a great effort by the fans.

Great night by the fans. It's tough to be excited in a low scoring, defensive game but we were tonight. For a change, the band did not get stopped by the advertising department and did a lot to build momentum.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I feel like I played the game I'm so tired from yelling, cheering, jumping and clapping!

This was seriously the Barn from the 90's...how it should be!

It was incredible the level of energy sustained even through scoring droughts.

It felt good being in the student section tonight.

I'd like to thank the scheduling gods who put the Gophs at home for the final two games of the season.:)

once again. the student section was great. the rest of the crowd was okay. the barn will not be back until everyone besides the student section decides to get in the game.

great win. fun to watch.

The Barnyard was full to the top 45 minutes before the tip.

Without any question, that was the loudest I've ever heard The Barn in person.

My voice is totally shot right now. Ye gads.

This.

Huge game, one with tourney implications and we cant get people to even stand up unless its a time out or until its the last 3 minutes. Does it hurt that much to stand up once in a while?

We even tried chanting 'on your feet', though sometimes at not the right moment, but still got no response.

CMON PEOPLE!

To be fair, the Gophers were outscored 10-0 to end the game their previous game.. @ Illinois..

But this was a great win. I'm excited to see SelectionSunday's updated Bubble stuff.

The student section was amazing when westbrook hit that free throw to take the 47-46 lead the whole student section became a mosh pit. the best game of the season

It was totally crazy in there, I was high-fiving everybody around me....There is nothin better than sweeping becky...

I was also pretty impressed with the lack of red there last night. I've been to about every wisco game at the barn in the last 10 years, and those snakes seem to usually get a lot more tickets, especially in the student section. When I turned around to look at the whole student section, there were only a few red specs instead of the usual red clumps of people. Thanks for everyone in doing their best to leave their friends from the east at home. Let's do what we can to keep this up in the future.

It's a great feeling coming home from the game and having hardly no voice, my neck was sore, and my arms were sore too. Now if we all could have only rushed the court to celebrate with the team. It was funny, I made the comment to someone that our Minnesota nice was showing after the game, I was up against the court at the end and I heard numerous people ASKING security to PLEASE let us on the court. If we were in Duke or UNC or another crazy insane student section school, we wouldn't have asked, we would have just stormed the court and past security, haha!

What a night!

It's great to hear that the barn is getting back to its old atmosphere. I wish I was still able to attend; I can remember the electric feel of that Cinci game in the late 90's and it makes me nostalgic.

I know we shouldn't be looking to rip off other teams' cheers, but any thought of a "Min-ne-so-ta" during zombie nation a la "we are penn state?" I just heard it the other day for the first time and thought that it might work well. Here's a penn state sample to give you the idea:

As long as it isn't a long "E" I'm for it.

I was also pretty impressed with the lack of red there last night.

Overall, me too. What DID NOT impress me was that people who work for GOPHER SPORTS MARKETING holding spots in the 6th row of the student section (110) for THREE F_CKING BADGER FANS. I was in line for my seat at 4:00 p.m. (the 7th person there) and I had to sit a row further back because these people who WORK FOR THE U OF M were in the Barn earlier than general fans SAVING SEATS FOR THEIR F_CKING BADGER FRIENDS!!

Tirade aside, the mosh pit was fantastic. Why was it fantastic? Because it was entirely organic. People at the front of the section didn't decide they were going to get it going - the students basically just freaked out and started going crazy. The volume at the end when the rest of the crowd decided to stand up (last two defensive possessions) was unbelievable.

Reading these quotes it would seem that ALL the enthusiasm in the Barn last night was solely attributable to the student section. Then I wonder why I can't talk this morning, why I couldn't hear my buddy yelling at me last night. The entire Barn was loud last night not just the student section.

If standing during the entire game is the sole indicator of crowd enthusiasm and involvement, as it would appear it is by these two quotes, then the Barn never will "be back" because they were never there. Nobody ever use to stand during the entire game including the students. The students only started standing when they noticed Duke was doing it back in the 90's.

The student section at Minnesota or anywhere else in college basketball is always going to be the most enthusiastic section in the arena. Why they have to continually pat themselves on the back, tell us how great they were (and last night they were certainly great) and criticize the balance of the crowd for not standing is beyond me. How do they even have time to notice what the folks in section 101 are doing? And if everybody in the Barn stood the whole game would it have been that much more exciting last night?

If the atmosphere last night was solely due to the students then why haven't we had that atmosphere all year?

I must also say that of the few weasels that got into the Barnyard, their reception last night was significantly more hostile than the treatment I got in the Grateful Red back in January.

Down at the KC our group of Gophers was hardly noticed, which is interesting because we were right next to the pep band. The Grateful Red is a shell of it's former self, assuming anything was there to begin with.

Good that it was loud. That is the way the Barn is supposed to be. Even on TV with the crowd noise half muted it was insane.
Gotta love that. That barn is the best place to watch a game in maybe all of the country when it gets rockin.

there is no reason for the rest of the crowd to stand the whole game. they just need to get a better understanding of when to stand. when we have old Mo on our side they need to get up and get loud no matter what time of the game it is. i see it every time i am watching other college games. we went on a run in the first half and donna smith was the only person up on her feet waving her arms around trying to get the rest of the crowd up and loud hoping for a defensive stop. there was no response. i just think its ridiculous that she has only been a gopher fan for 2 years but yet seems to have more enthusiasm than people who have been fans their entire life.

its just my opinion. i love the gophers to death and i want it to be a crazy atmosphere every game. maybe i am just selfish and asking for too much?

This from UMhoops.com in their comments section from yesterday... nice compliment and let's see if we can follow through on the atmosphere for Saturday!

Good got let’s hope we don’t go down to the wire in this building. I don’t think we have the experience to handle this environment. We can barely close out a home game that goes down to the wire.

What a game! Probably the best Big Ten game this season. Saturday is probably the biggest basketball game for both of these teams in over a decade, us since 1998, them since 1997 Final Four.

I’m honestly a little bit scared to play in this atmosphere Saturday. I hope those kids are superhungover.

Hughes ouch, looks like it’s over.

Sec105....You make a very good point. I do sit in the Student Section, but know full well that the volume last night was not just us at all.

I'm not sure where the perception that one has to stand in order to be loud comes from.

Phat Reusse was right!

51-46. Puke! And you know it!

(Nice win Basketball Contestants!!! Better an ugly win than a fabulous loss!)

I know two old guys (pushing 80) directly across the arena from me were probably one or two four letter words from being escorted from the arena. Every one was into the game, and it was fantastic.

Studbad is back with his same meaningless drivel. Welcome back Studbad.

Standing in the game isnt the sole indicator, but it does get people from sitting on their hands. This team is on the bubble and fighting for their post season lives against one of our most hated rivals and I think the fans should be giving the same, or proportional, effort to cheer them on.

The barn didnt get scary loud until the last 3 minutes of the game.. when everyone stood up. I just wish everyone was as enthusiastic, at least some of the time, as the student section during a defensive possession.

Seriously? Are we having this same stupid discussion again? The people that post on this board and go to games are solid fans that make a lot of noise. If you want to talk to the old time season tix holders, get on 'CCO. They aren't here!!!
