tomorrow we'll see 2 types of posts re: Jerry Kill

Believe what you want, I don't claim to know any more than anyone else in here as to what will happen in the future (even if dpodoll68 will go out of his way to try and claim that I say that I do).

Wrong. I have never stated that you claimed any level of clairvoyance. You did, however, claim to "know more about the inner workings of the football team than you can imagine". When called out, you backpedaled so furiously that you left skid marks.

Let's be honest, as much as the Gophers have labored in mediocrity (or worse) in recent times, there really aren't very many programs that would be a significant step up from MN. A step up? Of course. But a major step up that would come in and sweep Kill and his staff off their feet? There just aren't as many as people might think.

Your points are valid. I have not suggested that JK is a "sexy" hire, or that he wants to move. I just wonder sometimes about the mindset here. I put together in my mind a list of programs that I think would fit your "major step up" category. This might be a year when a fairly large number of those jobs come open, especially when you consider the remote chance Saban went to Texas.

Even so, USC is in the mix, too. Do you recall the trail Kiffen took to that job? I was amazed. How about Notre Dame's hiring of George O'Leary? As this season whizzes to a close, the bowl games start, schools start fighting to get in line to fill their jobs, things move pretty fast.

Raise your hand if you think I'm crazy. OK, everybody put your hands down. I wrote a few weeks ago that I wouldn't be surprised to see the Gophers win out and catch some breaks to finish 12-2, which would include wins over ranked Wisc, MSU, Ohio, and a pretty nice bowl game. How "sexy" would JK be then? If I'm an AD and see JerrySota shirts, fans chanting his name, and look at what he's done...at Minnesota?

Where does Wisc fall on your list? Do you think they were worried about Arkansas?

I know it's crazy. OK, fire away.

Oh good we can reopen this one again...awesome. I 100% stand behind that comment but what I meant by that statement is totally different than what you have tried to make it out be. Your claim is that I profess to know the most intimate details of what is going on over there at Gibson-Nagurski and I have never once claimed that level of knowledge. You twisted things around to make that statement into something totally different then it was and eventually I got tired of banging my head against a brick wall in trying to reason with someone like you who thinks they are never wrong about anything.

Jerry Kill is relatively young and wants to coach more than anything. He likes it here and will stay, even if he has an occasional seizure. The success this year (8 wins, maybe more) will allow him to stay as long as he likes. If and when he does leave, he has two coordinators, either of whom could step in and continue the program.

If we do pull out a victory tomorrow I would also expect the "We're going to lose Claeys" posts begin.

I have never once claimed that level of knowledge

In fact, you claimed exactly and precisely that level of knowledge.

someone like you who thinks they are never wrong about anything

People keep saying this a lot lately. It's not even remotely accurate. Again, I make mistakes and get things wrong so rarely that you might miss it when I own up to it.

Back to the original point - if the Gophs lose on Sat, I don't think you'll see people on this board calling for Kill's head. BUT, you will see some of our "friends" in the media falling all over themselves to proclaim that "The Gophers can't win a big game.........their success this year was a mirage........and the Gopher fans are chumps for believing that the team was ready to be a contender in the B1G."

The people who truly believe in the program will not jump ship after one loss - but the media yahoos like Zulgad are (IMHO) secretly hoping the Gophs get blown out on Saturday so they can spend the next week saying "I told you so."

As far as Kill leaving - I don't know if he has a "dream" job - like Notre Dame for Holtz, or OSH for Mason. This may be his dream job - a midwest school with modest expectations. Bigger jobs bring more pressure - and I'm not sure more pressure is what he needs for his long-term health.

Outside of that one statement you already quoted and bastardized show me where else I have proclaimed this special insider knowledge you seem to think I have claimed to have.

As for the part in bold I am going to hope that was some lame attempt at sarcasm on your part. Ok, enough wasting time on your attacks, apologies to others for wasting board space with more of the following....:banghead:

How exactly does one bastardize a verbatim quote? I don't need to go elsewhere, as you only said it once and ran away vigorously from it when called out.

Nope. It's accurate.

Totally agree that there are some in the media that would love to see that happen because it will give them a platform to use in order to get people riled up. I think in general though even if the team loses tomorrow most of the rational local media will still look on this season as a positive and a step in the right direction for the program.

If Jerry Kill goes 11-2 this year, I think the Legislature will: a) build a statue of him; b) award him a lifetime supply of big daddy money; c) pay his assistants a bunch more big daddy money. I doubt the man is going anywhere if he goes 11-2. Same scenario if he goes 8-5. The team has shown a capacity to improve dramatically in the last two years. Nobody in Minnesota is going to screw this up when the Vikings look pathetic and the Gophers look like they are the real football team in town. What really looks great is a sold out student section. That sells on capitol hill and with the U administration. You don't get big contributions down the road from alumni who feel screwed over. This team is going to be watched from now on. They are the talk of the nation. If the team plays well tomorrow, no matter the outcome, this team will be remembered for the ages.

This has been a very successful season. If we win, we win. If we lose, so be it. There should be no micro-analysis of the head coach, except that the team is markedly improved this year and he is very much responsible for that improvement. Kill will have the kids ready to play. I just want to see a solid effort on the field. Wisconsin is good, but I don't know if they are unbeatable. That said, we'll likely have to play our best game of the season to beat them.

PS--I'm just about the only poster here that viewed bowl participation as largely irrelevant coming into the season. Sure, it's nice to get the kids a reward and the extra practices, but after fifty years of meandering, I don't want progress that can be washed away in one or two seasons after a short-term spike. I'm convinced Kill is in for the long haul and he's as concerned with "how" we win as much as the fact that we win. This year has been a big step forward.

Strings like this makes me appreciated The Daily gopher so much more. People are actual sane overthere.

You are not alone in that sentiment. The bowl system has gotten to the point where getting bowl eligible should be a minimum requirement for most teams as opposed to an accomplishment.

From 1970 to 1990 we had 10 seasons where we were technically bowl eligible. Of those 10 seasons only 3 of those teams went to bowl games. That would not happen now but back then there were not the insane number of bowl games that we currently have.

Kill and staff are handling his medical issue now in a way that is beyond reproach. They deserve a lot of credit for that and for a great month of football. Things appear to be on track. That said, the future is still nebulous and I really don't think that Kill would be a viable candidate for the Hamline job right now. Too much uncertainty. He has a very long term contract here and nothing really needs to be done to change salarys or to work to sweeten the pot for any of our coaches but for what has been done for Claeys. I really don't see Claeys having people knocking down his door looking to hire him as a D1 head coach. He's a solid guy and good coach but I just don't see him as a long term option as the face of a program. Kill and his staff are better collectively than individually and this job is their zenith and for us maybe this group is just what we needed so we can avoid being a stepping stone and stay off the merry go round that comes along with it.

Not gonna touch the comments about Kill with a ten foot pole but on the part about Claeys, a couple months ago I would have agreed with you but seeing how he has handled himself as acting head coach I think he may get some offers. They won't be top jobs at BCS schools but I could see him landing in the MAC or one of the other 2nd tier D1 conferences. Whether or not he would actually leave remains to be seen but I would not be shocked to see some teams pursue him in the off season.

Thread Title: " tomorrow we'll see 2 types of posts re: Jerry Kill"

I disagree. If we win, there will be one thread at most.

If we lose, there will be 57 different threads all saying the same thing.
