Tom Dienhart ranks the Gophers #5 in the Big 10 Power Rankings

The offense has been upgraded from 'definition of one dimensional' (dont remember the source on that term) to 'balanced.'

The source? GopherHole experts.

Even worse! It was an Iowa fan....from the Northwestern board.

'This weeks' game will determine whether NW and Minny are "pretenders" or "contenders". Minny is the definition of "one dimensional". Their qb is horrible as a passer. NW proved that one dimensional teams are beatable by the victory over Wisk. Gordon is lightyears better than Cobb. Cobb won't run for 250+. NW wins this game by 10+ points.'

I'm sorry I said anything...

weird to me that Ioweeeeeeee is ahead of us considering they lost to ioweeeee state and our only loss is to a very good TCU team. Plus we beat a pretty solid NW squad and Iowa beats who? purdue and indiana. Deinhart baffles me. He is worse than a weatherman

Iowa's defense is nothing to brag about. They gave up 316 yards on the ground to IU. Granted they have the fbs top rusher but still a bad showing. They don't have any notable wins and a horrible loss at home to ISU. Dienhart must have some kind of bromance with Ferentz. It is the only reason I can think of to explain why they should be 4 in the PI. Looking forward to the game in three weeks in showing him the error in his logic.

Iowa and Minnesota have performed similarly in the last two seasons. In both 2012 and 2013, Iowa handled the Gophers on the field.

Coleman is a force and dominated against Iowa, no doubt there. Phil Parker's defenses give up more big plays than Norm Parker's defenses of old.

Iowa doesn't have any quality wins and has a horrible loss to Iowa State on its 2014 resume. All that being said, it's not that much of a stretch to have Iowa marginally ahead of Minnesota given that Iowa has handled Minnesota two years in a row.

For what it's worth, I would probably take the Gophers over Iowa in Minneapolis if I had to put money on it. We will learn a lot about Iowa this weekend when they play at Maryland.

Congratulations on the win over jNW.

The polls are hard enough to make sense of - even reading one guys opinion is a poor use of time.

By record, you are correct for 2010, 2011 and 2012. Iowa and Minnesota both finished 8-5 last season. Of course, Iowa won the head-to-head and finished with a better record in the Big Ten. I'll give you a half true on that one.

ESPN Power Rankings:

4. Minnesota Gophers
Record: 5-1 overall, 2-0 conference
Previous ranking: 4
What more do you want from the Gophers, who just continue to play sound football and win games? QB Mitch Leidner was solid if not spectacular in a 24-17 win over Northwestern. Same story from David Cobb, who rushed for 97 yards. The defense held when necessary, and Minnesota got a decisive 100-yard kickoff return from Jalen Myrick in the fourth quarter.
