I'll start by saying Penny Hardaway was among the best players I have ever seen at Williams Arena live and in person. I think it was New Years eve '92 when we beat them. Anyway, here is a link to a great story (from CNN) about Hardaway coaching a team at his old middle school in Memphis. Yes there is a heart warming angle to it and it's a great read.

I remember that game well. Memphis State (as it was called then) had a key injury as Penny's co-star David Vaughn sat out of that game, but Hardaway still put on a show. It was up there with some of Glen Rice and Glen Robinson's performances as well as Scott Skiles' 45 point performance at The Barn that I recall vividly from that era.
