Moving Smith to DT? An All-American and could have gone to the NFL if he wanted it at DE?

I don't see that. Other than perhaps as you say on specific "it's 3rd and everyone in the stadium knows you're throwing the ball" situations. But even then, he's so effective at getting to the QB ... would rather move Howard inside for those attempts. Or Menz, or ...
 

Well I am guessing the Gopher coaches have a better idea of what is best for the team and the players than anyone on this board, so we'll all find out together when the season starts.

Smith will not be at DT for anything other than obvious passing downs.

The Gophers picked up at least 3 DTs that are expected to contribute.
