Former University of Minnesota coach Tim Brewster, who has mentored Smith on his quest to become a tight end, told the Daily Telegraph: "A lot of coaches shy away from guys who haven't played the game because it is an exhausting process. To me, that's the exciting part. Taking a piece of clay like that. And I am going to tell you Hayden Smith is one beautiful piece of clay. Just mold him into what you want him to be."

Well said.

I honestly thought this was some kind of April Fools article--until I read the link. Wow. Good for you Tim. I hope it works out for you (just like the spread in '08 )

Man, some of you people are children. I'm sorry that Tim Brewster caused you so much pain and heartache.

Such a beautiful piece of clay. HAHAHAAHAHA

Thanks for your concern. He did. Brutal coach, but good luck to him in his future endeavors.

I see the usual assortment of assholes and creeps have been flushed out from under their rocks to tell us what a bad human being Brewster was because he failed to turn around one of the two worst football programs in the Big 10 during the last 40 years (like all of the coaches who came before him).

Are you really in a position to be calling people children? You've been whining non stop about the beer garden for weeks now. Probably the most childish display this forum has ever seen.

Do you do anything on this forum besides respond to my posts? Try coming up with something on your own for once.

Like you, I will post when I want and about what I want. Thanks for the suggestion though.

As a follow-up to the last post:

Most recent post: response to my post, whining about your awesome contributions
2nd most-recent post: response to my post, whining about my posting
3rd most-recent post: whining about me having morals re: the beer garden
5th most-recent post: response to my post, hoping I renounce my alumni status
9th most-recent post: whining about me, hoping I get carpal tunnel syndrome
14th most-recent post: whining about my posting re: the non-season-ticket holder event

16th most-recent post: same as 14th and 15th, more whining

The search history doesn't go back any further. You should be really proud of your contributions to this site. You and frozengopher should go into business together marketing "DP's taint juice", since you are the world's foremost experts on what it tastes like.

EDIT: Updated to reflect most recent post, which was, unsurprisingly, responding to my post and about me.

This much I know;

Brewster knows more about football than anybody on this board.

He was an absolute train wreck as a D-1 HEAD COACH but that doesn't make him an idiot and it doesn't mean he doesn't know the game. I don't know why it's so hard for people to separate the two. Not all great bosses/supervisors are experts in their field and not all experts in their field would make very good leaders. Apparently this is a concept that is horribly difficult for some of the resident football experts to grasp.

Brewster never should have been hired to coach the Gophers. Period. But if you think the guy doesn't know football, you're just not paying attention.

Except for the people screaming and whining in favor of having beer at TCF.

how do you think brewster got jobs with two different nfl coaches? because they're really good friends and shanahan likes having him around?

the dude knows football. he was a terrible head coach but that doesn't make him an idiot.

If there's one thing I'd trust Brewster with, it is grooming a tight end. That's where he needs to be and that's where he should stay. He's not head coach material, okay, but this dude knows a thing or two about that tight end position. There's a reason he's gotten NFL jobs doing it.

Though again, his words probably oversell what this guy actually has to offer, which is what got him into trouble here as well. But that enthusiasm will take him a long way toward getting this guy to the level he thinks he can be at no doubt.

I think that's an important point. I think there are a lot of athletes out there with all the talent in the world but don't have a chip on their shoulder, so they fold when it counts. Think about this guy - rugby player converting to a pro football player. Everyone is going to doubt his ability to go and get it even though he has all the measurables. Brewster is a perfect guy to put in his corner in a case like this. This player might flop, but I don't think he will be doubting himself while he's doing it, and Brew has a resume to make him think he can do everything he needs to do to make it.

Tim Brewster knows more about football than everyone on this board put together.

He makes real coffee. He makes raw coffee. Sometimes he makes real, raw coffee.

I see none of you read EDSBS or any other blogs that have humor in them.

Tim Brewster must be

Itching to coach again if he is mentoring this guy Hayden Smith. I wonder if he has asked any NFL head coaches
"Are you Hungary or are you starving"? for a new assistant coach. Must need something to do if he is working
with this dude.

I know Spencer Hall. I read Spencer Hall. You, sir, are no Spencer Hall.

The country? I'm confused.

Never claimed to be, nor did I insult Brewster's coaching credentials. I guess no one can have fun.

No jokes, no making fun of a coach who performed horribly at his job and set our program back, nothing. Let's just complain about everyone else's post. Schadenfreude has been banned from the message boards.
