Tiger Woods involved in single car crash, had to be extracted by Jaws of Life

Wow. Putting aside golf obviously, just hope he makes it through this.

and, of course, TMZ already has a photo of the car - looks pretty bad - front end is a mess. car looks totaled to me.

But, if the driver had a seat belt on, with the way cars are built today, you can survive a fairly major accident.

In Tiger's case, he just had back surgery again, so that will probably complicate matters.

Looking at the Golf Channel footage, the car is a total mess.

Update - Woods' agent quoted as saying Woods sustained "multiple leg injuries" and is in surgery.

reports also quote local law enforcement saying they do not believe alcohol was involved.

Isn't this Tiger's second single-car crash? Next time I'm in a car with Tiger, I'm driving.

2 single car accidents plus an asleep at the wheel incident.

Well, the first one was because his (ex) wife was literally chasing him and trying to hit him with a golf club.

I believe that was the second incident, when he was pulled over by the police for driving under the influence?

With his ex, she dragged him out of the car and he just passed out in the yard, sleeping like a baby.

He had also ingested copious amounts of meds.
Remember he has a major pill problem - hopefully that isn't involved this time around.

That would not be surprising given the amount of pain he has put his body through.

Pretty incredible if you watch the documentary on hbo max. Had no idea he did I think it was Navy Seal training.

update-- statement from doctors -- (if this is accurate, I would say Woods' days as a competitive golfer are over. It will be 6-9 months before he will even be able to walk again.)

Woods suffered comminuted open fractures in his right leg -- meaning the bone was shattered in at least 2 places and broke through the skin -- so doctors used a rod to stabilize it, according to Tiger's medical team.

Dr. Anish Mahajan -- Chief Medical Officer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center -- just issued a statement describing Tiger's injuries in detail ... and it sounds bad. Note, he only mentions injuries to ONE of Tiger's legs, not both.

"Mr. Woods suffered significant orthopedic injuries to his right lower extremity that were treated during emergency surgery by Orthopaedic trauma specialists," Mahajan says.

"Comminuted open fractures affecting both the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula bones were stabilized by inserting a rod into the tibia."

A comminuted fracture is when the bone breaks into several pieces, according to WebMD. And, the fact it's "open" means the bones broke through the skin.

Dr. Mahajan says Tiger also suffered serious injuries to his right ankle and foot -- which were stabilized "with a combination of screws and pins."

He continued, "Trauma to the muscle and soft-tissue of the leg required surgical release of the covering of the muscles to relieve pressure due to swelling."

Listening to other educated guesses on sports talk shows, it's similar in severity to Alex Smith's injuries and the big concern in the near future is avoiding infections.

I hope Tiger just gets to the point he can play golf recreationally, which even now just feels like it would be icing on the cake, as walking any distance at all seems like a huge goal (much less swinging a club). Playing competitively would be all the better.

I feel like they say this with every injury though. There's no doubt Tiger will be golfing again...whether he's good enough to play competitively after a long stretch without practice will be the issue.

There has to be at least some doubt. His knees were already under the knife several times before and this incident may prevent pivoting or placing significant torque on his lower body.

Also, there is no idea yet as to what the impact has been to his neck/spine which have been his main injury issues the past few years.

It would be remarkable for him to even be able to walk 5-6 miles again, much less walk that distance and be able to swing a club with the power, strength and technique to play competitively. Recreational golf while riding might be his best possible outcome.

Hahahaha id like to see what he was watching on his display system.

The video is one golf swing. It's good to see him out on a course but I'd guess he's a million swings and a couple of thousand miles of walking from even thinking about competing at a major championship level.

Just being able to tee it up with his kid in that PGA Father-Son event would be a huge victory at this point. No idea how likely that is, it's a month away.

That would be pretty cool. This is just idle speculation (putting out a video encourages idle speculation), but if he's still wearing a sleeve on his leg it means that the leg feels weak, stiff and sore. Walking the course with his son might be too much of a challenge.

True, walking would be a challenge but that sort of event I would imagine a cart is allowed or he could get an exemption. It's a made for TV exhibition. Looks like more than half the field are on the Champions Tour, even guys that are way beyond competing on that level, including Watson, Trevino and Player.

Purely speculation. Who knows if he can even hit semi-full drivers or 3woods.

Tiger is doing a press conference tomorrow ahead of the Tournament that's for his foundation in the Bahamas. Golf Channel article indicated:

- It was a 50/50 chance that his leg was going to have to be amputated
- Rehab is less than 50% complete, but making progress
- Does expect to play on the PGA Tour at some point
- When he does it will be extremely limited, just a few events a year in addition to the Majors
- Accepts the reality of the situation

He's IN!

He's being allowed to use a golf cart.

For those interested in golf on TV, if you missed Tiger and Charlie Woods yesterday, find a video hole-by-hole. You can’t make it up. It was awesome.
