Throwback Game versus the PAC-10

Tomorrow will be the 1st time in 20 years that the Gophers have hosted a Pac-10 opponent.

From 1930 to 1980, however, hosting Pac-10 teams (and visiting them as well) was a commonplace happening. To me, the golden age of the Gophers versus the Pac-10 was 1950 - January 1, 1962 (our last Rose Bowl appearance). During this period, here were the Gophers' Pac-10 games:

1950: #18 Gophers 13 @ Washington 28 (who ended the year at #11)
1951: Gophers 20 vs. #11 Washington 25
1951: Gophers 14 @ #2 Cal 55
1952: Gophers 13 @ Washington 19
1952: Gophers 13 vs. #4 Cal 49
1953: Gophers 7 @ #4 USC 17
1954: #14 Gophers 44 vs. Oregon State 6
1955: Gophers 0 vs. Washington 30
1955: Gophers 25 vs. #9 USC 19
1956: #6 Gophers 34 @ Washington 14
1957: Gophers 46 vs. Washington 7
1958: Gophers 21 @ Washington 24
1961 Rose Bowl: #1 Gophers 7 vs. #6 Washington 17
1962 Rose Bowl: #6 Gophers 21 vs. #16 UCLA 3

While this era predated me by almost 2 decades, seeing an outdoor game versus a Pac-10 opponent reminds me of that era.

I know there is a rumor out there that we will be clad in all-gold tomorrow, but I would love to see a throwback uniform of some type.

I love playing Washington, and wish we'd revive the series on a consistant basis. I'm not being selfish or anything, but Husky Stadium is only 30 minutes from home.

Other than the Rose Bowl Appearances, most of those away games involved traveling by train. This meant stopping off somewhere like Montana (for the Washington games) for a practice en route. Typically two+ day trek west. Not to mention the long return, especially if they had lost.
