Three-pointers

Is shooting accuracy a characteristic of an "athletic" player. How about passing skill? How about avoiding non-productive fouls? Can you identify an "athletic" basketball player without seeing him on court? I've noticed this adjective being applied frequently in the last several years -- just want to be sure I understand what the writer means.

This thread is about three point shooting and defense. If you'd like to start a thread criticizing whitey skoog for inventing the jump shot and shorts being too long, you can do that elsewhere.

who guards taylor?

When other players have the ball above the 3 point line though, you should expect to see a lot of pressure on the ball. He'll probably give pressuring Jordan Taylor a shot, put Austin on him with his length and quickness at times. They have no inside game so I wouldn't expect a whole lot of double teams if the ball gets in the paint. I would expect to see ball pressure and a lot of bodies playing to wear them down physically. Most games I have noticed that the person Tubby has guard the other point guard is our point guard. When Maverick was getting blown away by Johnson/Purdue, or Burke/Mich. Not blaming Maverick, he tries his best, but you would think you would scout and put a quicker guy, who plays good defense, on someone who is a driving threat. Chip is improving and he has that strength/athletism to be a good defender he just isnt there yet. Andre looks like he can play some defense, but as a freshmen Taylor would probably school him. I would love to see austin on him, you give up some height on other players though. Austin also isn't strong, but he has great length. But it is worth a shot. Will Tubby do this ..very doubtfull.

I think Welch is perfect to guard Taylor. Neither are very quick, more size PG's than anything and Welch does have fairly good hands. Taylor won't be able to just overpower Welch.

Another factor is last year we were starting Ralph, Iverson and Mbakwe the 2nd half of the Big Ten season. That is a recipe for giving up a lot of 3 pointers/attempts.
Aw man, remember that 2-3 zone? I have my head in my hands just thinking about it. They were sooo slow to close out on shooters.

If I didn't have a lot of depth, I'd zone Wisconsin because they are so slow and they don't shoot lights out. With Tubby willing to play 10 or 11 guys he won't probably won't use zone but it would be tempting IMO. Unless they screen extremely well, I think Wisconsin will have a hard time getting off uncontested shots.

I WOULD NOT risk letting WI take open 3s. They get hot, we're done. They live and die by the 3.
