Three Gophers in the Super Bowl

I think Seattle covers and Darnold proves he can win the "big one" when he's the guy a team with an OL...😁

(Oops... let me bounce over to the Max Brosmer thread 🙄)

Darnold has been really good both last year with the Vikings and this year in Seattle. He has credited sitting behind Purdy in San Francisco for a year really helped him, but his recent resurgance really does put to question the rushing of young QBs into starting roles. It doesn't help that if a QB is drafted in the top five, he's probaby going to a bad team and when he goes to a bad team that team probably isn't going to be a good team overnight. There are some exceptions, but Darnold played for two crappy franchises right out of the gate and that probably didn't help his confidence. Nice that he got a reset because I thought he was really good at USC.

So, is letting Darnold walk the biggest Viking mistake in their history? Is Seattle better than Minnesota if Darnold is the Vikings QB?
The Walker trade used to be #1. I suppose Les Steckel is in the running?

I just ran into Steckel at the country club.

This made me sick the other night (still kinda rooting for Darnold). I have to think that the Vikings brass realized that they couldn’t win with paying him AND fixing the OL/DL. Ironically the majority of the money spent on the lines turned out to be burnt money. I’ll still go with the Herschel Walker trade by a mile.

The Walker trade will always be #1 in terms of mistakes.

In hindsight, not signing Darnold to the multi-year deal he wanted was a mistake but things ended so badly last year and they had invested into JJ so had to find out what they had in him.

Crazy...I wouldn't have guessed he is the country club type. There used to be Country Club grocery stores...that I could see. But, if I'm Steckel I'm living some place warm where nobody knows me. :)
When he became coach he stood In front of the team cutting up credit cards and said some thing like "The country club days are over". Of course implying Bud was too soft.

It was so bad, Mike's tombstone included the line "it's too early to evaluate the Walker trade".
