I am in Ann Arbor for the weekend visiting friends and I was able to head to the Big House for the Spring Game. Here's some initial thoughts.

- The defenses were quite good, as expected. LB Joe Bolden was everywhere. Secondary play was quite good.

- Defensive lines were many times manhandling the Offensive Line, creating many negative plays.

- QB play was below average, Shane Morris is the same player the Gophers saw last October. Jake Rudock could actually be an upgrade.

Although this is just Spring Ball and things will change in the fall, I see no reason not be confident that the Gophers can keep the Jug. In fact, I'm slightly more confident.

My take has been, one year is not enough time to fix Michigan's O Line issues, this seems to confirm my hunch.

Interesting observations, dw.

Really? Where were you sitting? What were your observations?

I was sitting on my couch watching the game on BTN. The defense mostly stifled the offense both passing and rushing. Longest play of the game came on the first play which was a 35 yard run by Deveon Smith. Neither QB, Malzone nor Morris, looked particularly impressive. Was surprised to not see Wilton Speight play a single snap. There were a lot of trick plays and reverses. RB Wyatt Shalman is a new name at RB that I might keep an eye on. They look much more like a physical, run first, pro style offense than a spread from last year.

Unless they straighten out their OL issues, they will simply struggle on offense. That's just a fact.

I'm surprised it was on BTN. Is our on next week?

Hopefully it is and not just on BTN2go. Last year it was a far worse production than aggievision. So many plays were missed because they couldn't get the camera back to the field of play when they were interviewing anyone.

Morris was 10-24 with a touchdown and an interception. That's .416% and they cannot run the ball.

A very tight spiral tho, so there is that.....

I wish we would actually play a game for once. The glorified practice last year was a let down.

Throwing a nice ball doesn't mean you'll be successful, but it at least gives you a chance. The alternative would be throwing wounded ducks, like our QB, who doesn't stand a chance...

Does Michigan have a collection of D2 QB's like the Gophers? (at least according to SonnyGarcia......)

I heard they only took Rudock after the MSU-Mankato QB refused to transfer.
