This is when everyone needs to relax. We've had 4 games to see where we're at and most people seem to understand where we're at now. For those of us that love Coach Kill and think he's a great leader, follow his advice and face adversity right in the face. Look, this program is going to get much better under Coach Kill and people have to calm down, relax, and believe Coach Kill's seizures will get figured out. That's all we can do. This is when if your a fan, you realize this is just 4 games into an era. One thing that pisses me off is how so many Minnesotans seem to get so nasty so quick. We may not win another game this year but you know what, we'll be that much better next year and we'll be ranked in the top 25 in 2 years. Don't understand how people get so pissed off after this game when North Dakota State would hammer New Mexico State. NDSU is a much better team than NMSU. Keep supporting this team and don't expect many more wins this season. Just look for this team to keep working, get better, and not give up. I can guarantee that will happen if Kill gets back and it he doesn't it'll probably still happen. Our defense is giving up 23 points per game this year vs 33 points per game last year. The 3 games we've lost we've had the ball in the last 3 minutes with a chance to win or tie. Relax, and keep supporting this program. It's what it needs and it's what these kids need! It's what we all need. Believe!!! Like Coach Kill has said many times, "It's going to take everyone".

wait, YOU are the one telling people to RELAX? What is wrong with this world....

Awesome....another unicorns and glitter post. Why does it matter that NDSU is better than NMSU? That's like saying the Chiefs are better than the Vikings - and has nothing to do with yet another debacle on their home turf.

Keep working, get better, and not give up??? They've failed on all 3 thus far.

If you're not concerned with what has happened thus far after 4 games, you've had too many left handed cigarettes.....

Do everyone a favor and just stop watching or following the Gophers then.

No one is more pissed off by this year's start than me, but this is EXACTLY what I thought would happen. Guys who are known to build programs don't take one in shambles and gets them bowl eligible year one, NEVER! We all hate Iowa and Wisconsin, but they had two great coaches who built programs there and have been and still are successful, Barry Alvarez and Kirk Ferentz, both coaches went 1-11 and 0-fer in the conference first year. Some say, well, so did Brewster, but Brewster WAS NOT A PROGRAM BUILDER, he wasn't hired to be one, he was hired to continue what Mason created but only recruit better (easy to do with a new field to recruit to). He recruited good talent but to no particular area of expertise. Kill will build, and build, and build, until this team does things his way, and his way (look up the history) has always been successful. Give him some damn time, and he will be here. I strongly believe in 3 years, everyone will be eating crow at their tailgating.

I just look at it realistically; WE LOST TO A FCS TEAM AT HOME AGAIN!!!!!!!! This is a BIG TEN program and they continue to lose to these teams, at home yet! No excuse at all.

This isn't realistic at all. This is pessimist.

ATTENTION GOPHER FANS!!! We are a BOTTOM FEEDER B1G team. One in a transition year with a completely new offense and defensive systems (yet again) that just lost to one of the better FCS teams. And we aren't just a bottom feeder B1G team, we are a bottom feeder in the FBS division.

Surprise surprise.. the gap between the good FCS teams and bad FBS teams is smaller than it once was.

Another Alvarez/Ferentz analogy.....Yippy!

How many times did Alvarez or Ferentz lose at home as a 23 point favorite? How many times did they lose to I-AA teams?

Guys who are known to build programs don't take one in shambles and gets them bowl eligible year one, NEVER! .

Who said anything about bowl eligible? How about just beating FCS teams AT HOME and other homes games when favored by 23 POINTS. It's one thing to lose, but the coaching staff looks completely lost. Inexplicable play calling and completely outcoached.

Different systems?

Does Coach Kill's "system" call for players to line-up offsides? Does it call for WR's.....yes WIDE RECEIVERS....to false start on 4th and 2. Where is this discipline we keep hearing about? Does Coach Kill's "system" cause the defense to forget how to make a basic tackle? The objective on defense is to stop the other team form scoring. Who cares about a "system".....make a freakin' tackle. Stop the other team from scoring......

We should form a Gopher Hole high council to decide who may and may not don the Maroon and Gold.

Well, only way for this program to go is up!! Is that being a little more positive?

If you actually knew anything about the sport (read: played it maybe), you'd know exactly what my point is.. But I guess it was posts like these that's the reason I had you ignored in the first place.

Art you're not properly schooled in all phases of the game to properly digest that rationalization.

You are correct, it is was it is.

We are going to win 2-3 games this year and 4-5 next year, and hopefully by year three we are in a bowl game. At least this is the illusion I'm convincing my mind to buy into! The comparisons of Ferentz and Alvarez are helpful, and I hope they play out with Kill. But, I've also lived through those same comparisons applied to Wacker and Brewster. My advice for people is chill out and keep your blood pressure in check.

Kill told us all that the team lacked talent, was slow, and it would be a long process. No one believed him before. Believe him now.

For me, I just keep thinking about the end of webisode 2 where Coach Claeys says "there's not one of us on the staff who doesn't think were gonna get this done." I believe they'll get it done too, with time.

I was very close to the Southern Illinois program when Jerry Kill was hired down there and I have watched the first four Minnesota games from start to finish. The similarities from his first season at SIU and what I've seen from the Gophers the last month are eerie.

You are going to continue to see these clunkers this season and possibly next. You are going to see mistakes on the field. You are going to see players leave the program. While the results can't be seen yet Kill and his staff will build a foundation for a Gophers program you guys will be proud of in a few years.

Kill's health is a major concern right now but his staff will handle any absences with no problems whatsoever.

Kill has said it many times ... there are no shortcuts, so please be patient. The man will get it done.

Let me tell you what would be REALLY disappointing:

We fire Kill, and he and his staff go to Indiana, turn them around, and kick our asses 15 years in a row.

You want a guarantee go buy a car. If you want to rip on the team and try to bring everybody down I say go back to Madison. Same goes for Reusse.

I think 2 games this year is all that can be expected. I'm not sure where you get the 4 or 5 next year though. I don't see how next years team will be as good as this years.

That statement by Claeys has always stuck out to me too. It's frustrating for us right now and I'm sure it's frustrating for them too - but I do have faith they will get it done eventually.

Thanks for your insight, JerryKillFan. He kept saying this job was similar to turning around SIU - I guess we should have believed him!

And Gopher fans need to do their part and get their butts in the seats.

I am already to the acceptance phase. I'm just going to keep drinking heavily, it's the best way to get through it. The celebrations down the line will be that much sweeter.

I don't think the biggest concern right now is Kill getting fired. I've got a bad, bad feeling that he's not going to be the U's coach in 2012.

e: Nevermind, misread the post I replied to.

If you actually knew anything about the sport (read: played it maybe), you'd know exactly what my point is.. But I guess it was posts like these that's the reason I had you ignored in the first place.

1) You have no idea who I am or whether or not I've played the game. Why does that matter anyways? Plenty of people on this board rant and rave about Obama, the Twins, the T-Wolves, Maturi, etc. Just because they have never been President of the United States, played baseball, played basketball, or been an Athletic Director at a B1G institution - they are clueless? Tell me Uncle Rico...have you ever played the game? Could you throw a football over that mountain? Are you pissed coach didn't put you in the game so you could've won State? Or was is because you had to learn a new system that your team didn't win state?

2) You had me ignored, yet you still feel compelled to respond to my posts?!?!? Hmmm.....

Look, I'm not saying Kill should be run out of town after 4 games. I'm just saying the team's performance has red flags all over right now. We kept hearing about how well coached Kill's teams are and how detailed and prepared he is yet we have not seen one single sign of that.

The only way he's not head coach in 2012 is if he steps aside. There's no way they begin to contemplate firing a coach so early, even if a new AD does come in.
I know. I'm just concerned that the seizures that "aren't a big deal" might end up being a really big deal.

I think I know what you're getting at and this is my concern too. Coach Kill's health may be the thing that prohibits him from coaching beyond that. He is however a stubborn ornery cuss that won't go away easily.

I apologize I just woke up and I totally misread your post. I missed the "don't" at the start and I agree.

Kill will not BS you guys. You might not want to hear some of what he'll have to say but it'll be the truth. The man is almost honest to a fault.

Let's just hope he can get his seizures under control so he and his staff can devote their full energy to the job he was hired to do - turning around the Minnesota football program.

In talking with a number of friends last night and this morning - you're not alone in having that bad, bad feeling.

You guys are funny. The University has a little more integrity than that, he will be here at least four/five years at which point an evaluation will be done. Things are going to be tough the next couple of years, hopefully in year 3 we will see some improvement.

Boy you missed the point. The 'bad bad feeling' is Kill may have to retire. I know that because I'm starting to have it too.
