This is a Red Flag

How is this out of context? I did not hear Dan Patrick ask Dungy to comment on Mark Trestman specifically (Dungy brought it up), or for that matter any other coaching candidate, did you...or did Dan Patrick say there are rumors that either you or Mark Trestman are possible candidates to take over for Brewster?

Why of all possible candidates would Dungy throw out Trestman's name instead to say that he is simply not interested and they should be focusing on someone else?
siiiiiiiiiigh

A) Cruel Joke, TD is really bitter at the U of M in a very Minnesotan like nature (passive-aggressive) is doing all he can to sabotage the program. Or B) the article which Dan Patrick was referring to and quoted from mentioned only Dungy and Trestman (SP, don't care) as candidates!

For all the shortcomings that Hayes, Schembechler, and Bowden had, all you have to do is remind yourself how many times each of them had to punch a clock on New Year's Day

Apparently you weren't listening very carefully. (And it's Marc, not Mark.)

(Dungy brought it up)

No, he didn't.

Yes, I did. My ears are fully functioning.

Yes, he did. Well, to be more accurate, he read a snippet from Charley Walters' column that said virtually this exact quote, and asked Dungy to respond.

Why of all possible candidates would Dungy throw out Trestman's name instead to say that he is simply not interested and they should be focusing on someone else?

Probably because those were the two choices he was offered. You know, while Patrick quoted the news article saying (paraphrased): "Look for the Gophers to pursue Dungy or Trestman."

Certain types of coaches don't work well in certain areas of the country. I think that's all Maturi is trying to say. This is an area where folks like a little energy, but are more about "shut up and do your work." I don't think either Mason or Brewster truly understood that.

Yes, it's narrow-minded, but this is kind of a no-nonsense state at a lot of levels.

In some parts of the country, the coach could be a cannibal so long as he won games. Not here.

With that mindset, the Gophers will never get out of being a mediocre at best football program.

Awesome.

Your attitude is why SMU has been doing so great for so long.

So SMU has hired a guy that actually knows how to coach, rebuilt it's football program and is successful?

That's news to me.

I think Jeffrey Dahmer is dead if you're advocating a cannibal just so we can get into the Rose Bowl.

Ok, I've never understood this. Mason was fired because he couldn't take the team to the next level (contend for the BT title). Brewster comes in talking about being Big Ten champs and gets bashed for it. How does that make Brew naive? How dare he try? It didn't work out for him, but if the next guy doesn't come in talking about championships too I'll be pissed.

No, Brewster was lambasted for being naive enough to think he was the guy to do so. Wanting to win and having the ability to win are two different features. He was good at one of them.

It was successful. But their tolerance of scandal caused its downfall. I wasn't expressing an attitude, merely reflecting a fact that there are cultural matters that need to be taken into consideration. There is going to be more people digging for scandal than their might be other places.

Wow dpodoll68, you just destroyed me, nicely done. I will do my homework better next time, and get my ears checked.

Just for the record, I do not want Trestman either, yawn.

My feelings were similar to the poster in the Frazier/Trestman thread, I think Dungy will have the stamp of approval, why else would they waste his time bringing him on board, hence my thought that Trestman stands more of a chance.
