This is a better team - but still flawed. What do people want?

How about lining up under center on third and less than one, instead of running a GD read option play! Limegrover's play calling blows.

I have no problems with being in the gun. They couldn't push Michigan off the ball all day and have to show the ability to get to the outside. The RB's can't get there by themselves. My problem is when they are close and in the gun, everytime they try to throw it, it's like reading War and Peace trying to wait for the play to develop. Make it simple for your QB - 1st option, 2nd option, run like hell forward.....

Is it possible to be worse than last year? They have not cleared a big hurdle yet folks.

Maybe it's time to fire Clayes and Limegrover. If we learned anything from Tim Brewster it's that having a new coordinator every year really gives us a tremendously fresh look. Don't give them time to teach these young kids and work their system. Get em out the door. That's how good football programs do it. Nelson will do just as good as Weber with 4 coordinators during his career. Consistancy is overrated. I suppose you going to tell me Kill turned around SIU and NIU by continuity and patience. C'mon.

exactly, is it possible to be any lower than last year??? These guys lost to a pathetic program at home last year. Hardly a compliment to say "They are better than last year".

Some MN fans are so greedy & unrealistic...

The expectations for Year 2 in Kill's Era was to show improvement & we've shown that & will possibly double our record from last year. Nobody saw how horrible our Run D would be this Season... *NOBODY*... but the Defense overall has done their share it's just the Offense that can't seem to stay consistent.

I mean as ridiculously terrible as we looked against the Run against Northwestern we only let them score 21 points. The 22 point loss today didn't tell the story of a Defense that gave Michigan trouble all day & got hit with a few questionable 3rd Down penalties & some very near misses that resulted in scores for Michigan.

Most posters expected 3-5 wins... we've done that & now they're greedy for more. Calm down... we're on the right path...

You have to start somewhere.

That being said, I was very bothered today. I thought it was a game that was there for the taking. I refrain from getting bogged down by the ticky tack fake FG, etc., although I hear the argument. I'm more frustrated with an overall lack of execution. I really felt that we could have won that game.

I won't see the trees for the forest, however, we are on the move. These FR will soon be SO and JR's etc.

I'm with you Balds. This one bothered me more than some other losses. After it was announced the Denard wasn't going to play, I felt we had a really good chance to win (and I think we did). Bad penalties, bad execution, and leaving points on field are hard to swallow. I take solace in the fact that the kids are getting better and we didn't get totally dominated on the line of scrimmage until late. Actually we had the upper had for chunks of the game. We ran the ball at times, yet failed to convert on some key short yardage situations.
Anyone remember when Phil Simms converted on 3 and 17 or 4th and 17? That's what the play today reminded me of except the Gophs are my team more than the Queens.

I agree. The improvement is evident, if for no other reason than we are talking about how we missed opportunities rather than how we were terribly overmatched. I watched the game with someone who never follows the Gophers, and all he kept saying was how amazed he was that the team was so close.

He kept seeing good plays and asking what year the kid was. When I invariably said freshman, he was amazed every time. Williams, Nelson, Maye, Plsek, Cockran, Ekpe, etc. Kill has these kids playing, and as disappointed as I am about the missed opportunities and the loss today, I might be even more excited about the future than I was after the win last week.

They should have hired Mike Leach.

Looks like Leach is having some good success at Washington State. Currently, they are 2-6 and were routed by Utah 49-6 yesterday. Maybe he will be successful there, but right now, we have no reason to think Coach Kill won't here either. I'm confident we have the right coaching staff in place. We need to support our coach and trust in what they are doing. Seriously people, he hasn't even finished his second year!

I'm dissapointed we didn't win the game and how things didn't go our way. We weren't expected to win the game but I'm encouraged that I was confident we were going to win for much of the game. They played their hearts out. I'm stunned how people are expecting so much so soon given where they are in the developmental process of the program.

Kill and staff would be fine. Progression is the key. The team is better than last year. Look at most any rebuilding project in college football. Year one is almost always a disaster. Year two, the team wins more games. Year three, that's when the fun starts.

Great perspective. I think it is much too early to be apoplectic about the coaching staff. While much has been made of their years together and experience, they, too are in a learning curve. They are learning what it takes at this level. Fake field goals, fake punts, etc. may not work as well in the Big Ten as they did in the MAC. Especially once everyone knows you use them regularly. Today's PP article was interesting:

http://www.twincities.com/gophers/ci_21923538/gophers-football-loss-michigan-has-an-air-desperation

We need to give the coaches time to adjust, learn, and move forward. If they don't, then apoplexy will be more understandable.

Fact of the matter is, we actually have a shot at 7 wins. Considering where we were last year that's fricking amazing.

I am pissed about yesterday and think coaching was poor, but unfortunately we've tried the power formation this year a few times in short yardage situations and have been stuffed every time. O line is very below average, outside of Campion.

ha! well said. some of the absolutely clueless butt nuggets that post here, and only seem to post here following a loss (hmmm coincidence????) can make this board so unreadable at times.

that said, agree today's loss was a bummer. was feeling like it just might go our way as we were getting really close to half-time. sure there was some mis-execution on certain plays, but the bounces just didn't seem to want to go our way in the second half. and i don't believe it is unfair or homerish at all to correctly state that some of the terrible calls made by the officials really did have an impact on the momentum of the game from the gophers point of view.

let's go get illinois next week. go gophers!

If you are Gopher football fan it is hard to be happy or satisfied with what occurred yesterday. I often turn to MV for a more rational and thoughtful perspective after a loss. Click on the link below to hear his comments.
