Trailing 24-19 with 6:00 to go, a transfer quarterback from Oregon connects on an 81-yard bomb to a wide-out from Miami. The quarterback had earlier this season guided the Gophers to a stunning win over #6 Ohio State in Columbus. The wide-out would go on to set a school record with 5 blocked kicks in 2002. Can you name these players? TRAVIS COLE AND JERMAINE MAYS

November19, 1977- Minnesota 13 Wisconsin 7
Gophers get 2 field goals from a sophomore kicker from Michigan. Earlier this season he had dispatched
Washington with a last-minute field goal and kicked 3 in an epic 16-0 win over Michigan. He was Minnesota's first soccer-style kicker and his 44 career field goals are #4 in school history. Can you name this player? PAUL ROGIND

November 20, 1948- #15 Minnesota 16 at Wisconsin 0
Gophers get a field goal from a Duluth native who would go on to play 9 seasons with the 49ers. He would be a 3-time Pro Bowler as an offensive end and have 250 career catches, 25 for touchdowns. His 70 career field goals are the 9th most in franchise history. Can you name this player? GORDY SOLTAU

November 21, 1992- Minnesota 28 Iowa 13
Jim Wacker's first team finishes just 2-9 but does manage to recapture Floyd. A wide-out from Elk River scores on a 58-yard pass play and has 8 catches for 158 yards. He also shares the school record with Eric Decker with a 13-catch performance at Michigan. The quarterback is a sophomore from St. Paul who had thrown just 15 career passes before this game. He went 21 for 32 for 261 yards with no picks, but it would be his last game for Minnesota. Can you name these players?
AARON OSTERMAN AND ROB ST, SAUVER

November 22, 1969- Minnesota 35 Wisconsin 10
Gophers beat Badgers for 3rd time in a row and roll up 277 rushing yards on a muddy field (they would switch to astroturf in 1970). A junior running back from North Dakota has 216 of those yards. He had 1,800 career rushing yards, with a 4.8 YPC average, despite being slowed by injury as a senior. Can you name this player? BARRY MAYER

November 23, 1940- #1 Minnesota 22 at Wisconsin 13
Gophers complete a perfect season and capture a National Championship. They get an 8-yard scoring run from a Melrose native and St. Cloud high school product. He played for Minnesota (1940-1942) and then enlisted in 1943. He would be allowed to play for Michigan as he participated in a pre-flight program at that university. In 1943, Michigan would pound Minnesota, 49-6, making him the only player to go 4-0 in Brown Jug games while playing for both schools. Can you name this player? BILL DALEY

November 24, 1990- Minnesota 31 #13 Iowa 24
A freshman wide-out from New Orleans blocks a punt that is recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. In 1993 he would go on to set a school record by catching 5 scoring passes in a wild win over Purdue. On this very day, 28 years later, his son would return a punt for a touchdown in a 37-15 rout of Wisconsin. Can you name this player? OMAR DOUGLAS

November 25, 1933- Minnesota 6 at Wisconsin 3
In a swirling, 45 mph snowstorm, Gophers finish 8-0 and wrap up a National Championship with a perfect season. Minnesota gets its touchdown on a short plunge by a College Football Hall of Famer from Rice Lake, WI. He had run for 241 yards vs. Ole Miss in a 1932 game. His real name was Francis, but his combative style of play earned him a fitting nickname. Can you name this player? PUG LUND

November 26, 2011- Minnesota 27 Illinois 7
11-point underdog Gophers finish 3-9 in Jerry Kill's first season and hand the Illini a 6th straight loss. A junior quarterback from Indianapolis literally abuses/bullies the visitors with 160 rushing yards. Minnesota never really finds a permanent position for him but he would go on to play 5 seasons in the NFL as a tight end. Can you name this player? MARQUIESE GRAY

November 27, 2010- Minnesota 27 #24 Iowa 24
16-point underdog Gophers finish 3-9 with their 2nd straight emotional win under an offensive coordinator who had been elevated to interim head coach after Brewster had been fired with the team in disarray. On a bone-chilling day, Gophers secure the win when a cornerback and kick-return star from Texas delivers a crunching hit on Iowa back Marcus Coker. A fumble is caused, the Gophers recover and soon the filed is flooded with fans. Can you name these men? JEFF HORTON AND TROY STOUDERMIRE

November 28, 1963- Minnesota 14 Wisconsin 0
Gophers play in their only Thanksgiving Day game, delayed due to the JFK assassination. On a raw day with 30 mph winds, a fullback/linebacker/kicker from Wisconsin scores all of Minnesota's points on 2 short runs and 2 PAT kicks. It is a day of redemption for him as he had missed a short, last minute field goal in a bitter 13-11 loss at Purdue in the team's previous game. A future NFL Hall of Famer personally thwarts the Badgers when they run 3 plays at him from the Minnesota 1-yard line. Can you name these players? MIKE REID AND CARL ELLER

The quartervack was Travis Cole
To be clear, Travis Cole played high school football at Lake Oswego HS in Oregon. He went the JUCO route and played at Foothills JC in California and transfered to Minnesota from Foothills. He was not a transfer from Oregon (typically a reference to the U of O).

When I refer to players, I go with where they grew up/attended high school. Thank you for responding, though.

Why didn't Fleetwood play after that Win vs iowa in 1992? He quit the team?
He didn't play in that game as he was hurt. He was a senior and went undrafted. He went on to play in Canada. If somehow he had another year at Minnesota, it is doubtful that he would have played much. Wacker came to Minnesota in 1993 and installed his son-in-law, Tim Schade, at quarterback. He wasn't great at Minnesota but he did break Hohensee's record for most passing yards in a game. He threw for something like 468 yards in a loss at Penn State.

In 1948 the player was Gordy Soltau who held receiving for the 49ers until a guy name Jerry Rice came along
Actually, Billy Wilson (1951-1960) was a far more productive receiver than Gordy. He made 6 straight Pro Bowls for the 49ers and led the NFL in catches 3 times. He only played 12-game seasons but still is in the top ten in franchise history in catches, yards receiving and touchdown catches. Just a remarkable player.
