Things I am pissed off about

Comes off as pretty negative, but I agree. If you can't beat Purdue, you certainly aren't looking good on the road against a team like Maryland.

That's why they play the games, my friend, you just never know.

Anything is possible I guess. Nobody expected Iowa to beat Ohio State on the road. Maryland just has much better quality depth than us. We might have a chance if we focus on stopping their top two scorers and those guys insist on taking on the Gophers personally instead of sharing the ball.

Our biggest weakness is rebounding, Purdue's biggest strength is rebounding. Hammons is super talented, but gives inconsistent effort... except against us, he is always very motivated against us.

This was always going to be a tough game, even if we are the better overall team, which I still believe that we are.

I was pissed off after the game too, but I don't quite understand all the hate and pessimism that seems so rampant around here right now.

Agreed. In the grand scheme of things, this loss certainly isn't as bad as losing to Northwestern at home last year.

I agree - for 30 minutes, we didn't play to bad, but the last 10 were terrible. We have to continue to be aggressive, especially on defense, and make the easy shots that we get on offense.
+1 Not much defensive pressure those last 10 minutes. Tough when we could not stop them from attacking the rim.

Our three smalls were our key to the game. We all knew their bigs were the key for the Boilers. They out played us by a large margin the last ten. Hopefully lesson learned & and the match ups with Maryland work in our favor. 40 minutes.

Go Gophers

Looking at the box score. We didnt cause enough turnovers, especially in the second half, and we only had 6 steals. We are playing small ball and need these two things every game. For as weak as we are at rebounding it was Purdue 32-31, with 11 on "o" apiece. But looking another way they shot 27 free throws to our 20, making 22 to our 14. There is 8 points. Do they make 81.5% on the road, highly unlikely. I am not panicking. One injury or suspension to one of our top 7 will make me very nervous however!

This all sounds eerily reminiscent of the St. John's game. Not as much official stuff though.

You beat me to it. They were aggressive and got steals and turnovers in the first half, and it felt like they chose to be less aggressive and give less effort in the second half. And once St. John's / Purdue started to come back, you felt there was going to be no stopping them. The other similarity is that St. John's was essentially a road game. This Gopher team does not have road toughness. They were lacking on the road last year, and they lost their mentally toughest player to graduation.

Morris with a lot of pine at the end of the game. He let Stephens get loose for a couple of 3's when the Gophers were in a man defense and Purdue got right back in it. Hate to say it, but DeAndre can play much better defensively and offensively. 50 minutes total out of King and EE and 3 rebounds. One last thing, Hammons was absolutely camped out in the lane and scored on a layup to make it 68-65.

The old transitive property of sports, gotta love it. Pack it up and go home everyone, we lost to Purdue and Purdue lost to Garner Webb who beat Clemson, who lost to Rutgers, and Rutgers lost to Northwestern so there is no why we can beat Northwestern....

SEASON OVER!!!!!

Go gophers, annoyed, not pissed.

I cannot believe as a senior i still see him try to be a one man fast break against 5 guys on defense! 1 on 5 great odds buddy. I love DeAndre but I cannot stand when he is taking it in against bad odds, this is the type of thing experienced sr's shouldnt make..especially pg's!

This team needs some toughness right now and the two toughest guys on the roster appear to be our 2 pg's DeAndre and Mason.

Stephens just started hitting contested threes in the second half. Morris was actually playing decent defense there. Pretty quick release and high elevation from a player who looked decently tall.

Morris being our wing stopper is hard as he is so skinny and cannot fight through physical play. On the other hand he is very quick. We haven't had a real sf with quickness, size, and speed in a while. We have been playing a sg at the 3 pretty often.

Maybe so Underground. Thought he lost Stephens on the first one, then tried to recover and got there late. On the second one, Stephens feinted as if he was headed to the same spot and got a screen from Haas to get open.

Morris had to get through screens to get to Stephens on both those shots.

All I know is that if the Gophers get beat by a sizable margin tomorrow this board will go into melt down mode.

I don't think it will take a sizable margin. Any margin, more likely. And the goofballs will come out of the woodwork again.

As will the resident message board flamer who is a self-proclaimed non-fan of the Gophers but who the admins want to keep around!! We won't hear from him if the Gophers win

Purdue up 15 with 3 minutes left at home against Michigan.
