The U needs a real good student package.

Btw, that's a lot of riding time on such a short trip. No one does train anymore?

No, because trains are horribly inefficient most of the time. To get from Minneapolis to Orlando on Amtrak would require you to go through Chicago and Washington DC, take 47 hours and 44 minutes (assuming they're on time - a rarity) and cost $362.

What a shocker...Jike Spingleton ripping on the rail industry. Next thing you know Wisconsin will be losing their coaches to places like Oregon State.

Amtrak can be a great deal some places, but you're right, there isn't a good route from the midwest to Florida. It would be great if they did though. A train full of Gophers fan would be a fun trip.

I would think cheap or not, students would jump at this. Most will view it as a couple day party in Florida. I think that would appeal to even casual fans just because its a great excuse to go to Florida in January. Students can scratch together $300 or beg their parents. I would give my U student $300 to go on an awesome bowl trip.

Unlike you, I have learned from my past mistakes riding the rails. Never again.

$299 for two nights hotel, transportation, a game ticket, pre-game tailgate party and student ticket for next season.. that is a great deal to go down to FL on winter break when you have nothing goign on spend New Years there.

Take out the price of next year's ticket and that is around $200 which is a steal!
